AOC spent years screaming that ICE was a terrorist organization and demanding open borders for everyone.
Now the Supreme Court handed Trump two massive immigration wins – and she's suddenly the champion of Trump voters.
What she said on camera Thursday was so cynical it has conservatives across America shaking their heads.
The Ruling That Has Democrats Desperate
The 6-3 Supreme Court decision in Mullin v. Doe cleared the way Thursday for the Trump administration to end Temporary Protected Status for roughly 350,000 Haitians and more than 6,000 Syrians living in the United States.
Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the conservative majority that the Secretary of Homeland Security's TPS decisions are not subject to judicial review – a direct rebuke to the activist lower court judges who had blocked Trump at every turn.
The White House didn't mince words.
Deputy press secretary Abigail Jackson said TPS was always meant to be temporary – never a pathway to permanent status or citizenship – and called the ruling a "tremendous win" for the administration.
She's right.
TPS was created by Congress in 1990 under President George H.W. Bush as an emergency relief valve – a short-term humanitarian fix for people stuck here when their home country experienced a crisis.
Six to eighteen months. That's it.
That was the deal.
What Democrats did over thirty years was turn emergency relief into a permanent backdoor immigration program, extending and re-extending TPS for countries like Honduras and Nicaragua – designations that have now been running for over twenty-five years.
The Trump administration called this exactly what it is: a de facto amnesty program.
AOC's Play and Why It Won't Work
AOC walked in front of cameras Thursday and declared the ruling a "real betrayal of President Trump's promise" – claiming Trump told voters he would only target criminals and rapists, not nurses and restaurant workers.
This is the same Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who spent her entire congressional career fighting to eliminate all immigration enforcement.
The same congresswoman who called for abolishing ICE.
The same socialist politician who voted against every piece of border security legislation Republicans put forward.
Now she's lecturing Trump voters about what Trump promised them.
The claim itself doesn't hold up.
Trump was explicit throughout his 2024 campaign that he intended to carry out the largest deportation operation in American history.
He promised to end TPS for Haitian migrants – and made no secret of it.
Stephen Miller publicly stated TPS holders would be targeted.
This was not a surprise to anyone paying attention.
What AOC is doing is a transparent political play – trying to wedge Trump voters away from the president by pretending the Democrat Party suddenly cares about keeping promises to conservatives.
It won't work because conservative voters know exactly who AOC is.
The Court Also Slammed the Asylum Loophole
The Supreme Court handed Trump a second win Thursday.
The court sided with the administration on asylum "metering" – the policy that allows border officials to limit asylum claims when ports of entry are overwhelmed.
This is common sense border management that the Biden administration abandoned and that Democrats have fought tooth and nail.
House Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar complained that Trump had "time and time again" attacked a process that has been part of U.S. law for decades.
What Aguilar forgot to mention is that the asylum system he's defending became a broken revolving door under Biden – with nearly a million asylum claims filed in a single year.
The system wasn't being protected. It was being exploited.
What This Ruling Really Means
Thursday's decision is bigger than Haiti and Syria.
The legal precedent the Supreme Court established could affect all 1.3 million people currently holding TPS across 17 countries when each designation comes up for renewal.
The administration has already moved to terminate 13 of those 17 designations.
What conservatives have known for years just got confirmed at the highest level: the executive branch has broad discretion over TPS with minimal court interference.
Lower court judges who made careers out of blocking Trump's immigration agenda just lost their primary tool.
DHS General Counsel James Percival put it plainly: "The T in TPS stands for TEMPORARY, yet many of these designations became de facto amnesty. This is a win for the rule of law and common sense."
AOC can call it a betrayal all she wants.
The American voters who sent Donald Trump back to the White House to fix the border know exactly what they voted for – and they're getting it.
