AOC Just Told America She Wants to Be President and Chuck Schumer Should Be Very Afraid

Aug 12, 2026

The Democrat Party spent two years insisting Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was too radical to lead anything beyond a Brooklyn bartender association.

Now she just told ABC News she hasn't ruled out running for president – and the polls show she'd crush Chuck Schumer on her way to the White House.

So the woman who wants to abolish ICE, end private health insurance, and push the Green New Deal might be the next Democrat nominee – and the party establishment can't stop her.

She Said the Quiet Part Out Loud

AOC went on ABC's This Week Sunday and told anchor Jonathan Karl she hasn't ruled out running for president in 2028 – then added that "anything is possible" when he asked about a Senate run against Schumer.

She's 36 years old.

She wants to eliminate the agency that's keeping rapists and murderers from walking your streets.

She wants to gut private health insurance for 180 million Americans and hand it to the federal government.

She thinks the Green New Deal – the legislation that would effectively destroy American energy independence – is a reasonable policy proposal.

And she just became the frontrunner to lead the Democratic Party.

A University of New Hampshire poll put her at 22% among likely Democrat primary voters, one point ahead of Pete Buttigieg.

The AtlasIntel survey placed her at 26% – more than double Kamala Harris's share.

This isn't a niche candidate playing to a Brooklyn crowd.

This is the face of what the Democrat Party is becoming.

The Schumer Problem Nobody Wants to Say Out Loud

Here's what should terrify every moderate Democrat still clinging to the illusion that their party can be saved.

Chuck Schumer – the 74-year-old Senate Minority Leader who has held his seat for over two decades – is getting destroyed in his own primary polls by a bartender from the Bronx.

Data for Progress put AOC ahead of Schumer 55% to 36% among likely New York Democratic primary voters.

That's a 19-point margin.

Schumer is the most powerful Democrat in the Senate and he's getting lapped by someone who publicly calls for abolishing ICE – the agency that arrests murderers, kidnappers, and child predators that Biden let into the country.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said it plainly when AOC renewed her ICE abolition push: "This kind of demonization of ICE officers has led to our officers facing a 413% increase in assaults."

AOC's response?

She used it as a fundraising pitch.

The Party Is Hers Now

The Michigan Senate primary last week should have been a five-alarm fire for every establishment Democrat.

Abdul El-Sayed – backed by AOC and Bernie Sanders – won the Democratic primary running on Medicare for All, abolishing ICE, and cutting off military aid to Israel.

He beat a centrist candidate backed by the party leadership by roughly 15,000 votes out of more than 1.5 million cast.

AOC called that a "generational change."

She's not wrong – it just isn't the kind of change that's going to win a general election.

The Justice Democrats and the Democratic Socialists of America – the same machine that turned a Bronx bartender into a national figure – just proved they can flip a swing-state Senate primary against the party establishment's handpicked candidate.

Why Republicans Cannot Afford to Laugh This Off

The party apparatus that ran Kamala Harris straight into a historic loss against Trump is the same one insisting AOC is unelectable nationally – and they have no plan to stop her.

The left-wing isn't asking permission anymore.

AOC just signaled on national television that she's not sitting 2028 out, and the coalition that's been winning primaries all cycle is already behind her.

The woman who wants to hand your healthcare to the federal government and disband the agents arresting child predators is now the face of the opposition party.

Every Republican who chuckles at that and goes back to sleep is making the same mistake Democrats made about Trump – except this time it's your country on the line.
