Women’s Volleyball Star Brooke Slusser Just Got the Ruling SJSU Was Praying Would Never Come

Jul 24, 2026

SJSU told Brooke Slusser she had no case.

Then the Supreme Court unanimously rewrote the rules.

And what happened inside that university is something they never wanted the public to see.

The Campus SJSU Doesn't Want You to See

On February 26, pro-trans activists packed an SJSU engineering building and unleashed on two administrators for 45 minutes.

The university president – who had promised to attend – was a no-show.

Speakers screamed at the two administrators left holding the bag, demanding they refuse any agreement with the Trump administration's Title IX investigators.

One activist declared that accepting the federal resolution would mean "enforcing segregation on our campus" and announced that compliance was off the table entirely.

Another screamed at the two administrators present: "People are harmed. People are scared."

Eight days after that meeting, SJSU and the entire California State University system filed a lawsuit against the federal government.

The school that allowed a biological male to share bedrooms and changing spaces with female athletes for three years – without telling them – decided the real problem was the Trump administration trying to hold them accountable.

Donors Walking, Coaches Accused, and a Cover-Up in Writing

The internal documents obtained by Fox News Digital through public records requests tell a story the university's press releases never will.

A donor who had served on the Tower Foundation for years sent a resignation email weeks before the federal investigation concluded.

"The women who work so hard to advance their careers in athletics are getting robbed," the donor wrote – adding that Title IX "was to advance and protect women."

The university's response wasn't to address his concern.

It was to route all donor complaints through a single administrator who would "track and assess an appropriate response."

Vice President of Advancement Judy Nagai instructed staff that every phone call, email, text, and in-person conversation from concerned alumni should be funneled through one office – to be managed, not answered.

Meanwhile, head volleyball coach Todd Kress faces a separate storm.

A former player at Fairfield University sent a letter to SJSU in October 2024 alleging Kress attacked her in a hotel room in 1998.

The school let him keep coaching and traveling with the team anyway.

"SJSU has known I feared for the safety of the women in the program since October of 2024," the former player told Fox News Digital, "and yet they have allowed Todd to continue to coach and travel with the team."

SCOTUS Just Handed Slusser a Loaded Gun

On June 30, the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that Title IX permits schools to maintain women's sports teams for biological females and exclude biological males – full stop.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote that "the Constitution and Title IX do not require an overhaul of women's and girls' sports throughout America."

That ruling directly arms Brooke Slusser's lawsuit – which survived motions to dismiss – as it heads toward a final decision on the Title IX claims against SJSU and the CSU system.

The federal Education Department had already ruled SJSU violated Title IX going back to 2022, offered a resolution agreement that required no fines – just an apology and corrected records – and SJSU said no.

Now SJSU is fighting the federal government in court, managing angry donors through a communications firewall, and staring down a Supreme Court ruling that left them with nowhere to hide.

Slusser had it right back in March: "It makes me so mad that SJSU still refuses to see that everything they did is wrong. I think they're just too scared to admit it and face the repercussions of their actions."

The university that couldn't protect its own female athletes is now spending California taxpayer money trying to protect itself.
