Wendy’s Just Made Valentine’s Day Hangover Way Better With One Burger Deal

Feb 13, 2026

Valentine's Day brings couples plenty of attention.

Single Americans get something they've been waiting for since 2001 the next day.

Wendy's just announced the perfect cure – and it's not about romance.

Singles Awareness Day February 15: What Started as High School Protest Became National Holiday

The unofficial holiday began with a high school student and his friends who got tired of feeling left out.

Dustin Barnes created it in 2001 as a celebration of independence rather than a pity party.

He picked February 15 for a genius reason – Valentine's candy goes on sale the day after.

Barnes took the tradition to Mississippi State University where it exploded in popularity.

By 2005, it was officially copyrighted.

The holiday now reaches millions of Americans through social media with over 55,000 Instagram posts using the hashtag.

Green became the official color as the opposite of Valentine's red.

Some singles wear black as their anti-romance statement.

Wendy's App Deal: How to Get $1 Dave's Single Cheeseburger February 15

Wendy's is celebrating with a Dave's Single cheeseburger for exactly one dollar.

The quarter-pound burger typically costs between $5.99 and $8.19 depending on location.

You get American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, ketchup and mayo on a toasted bun.

There's one catch – you need to buy something else through the Wendy's app or website.

The deal runs exclusively on Sunday, February 15.

Wendy's marketing team called out the dating disasters singles have endured: "Forget the drama, the ghosting, the 'left on read' texts."

Their pitch is simple – the Dave's Single has been "reliable since 1969 because it never disappoints."

The timing reveals what fast food chains learned about American wallets in 2025.

Fast Food Value Wars 2026: Wendy's Biggie Deals vs McDonald's McValue Menu

Consumer spending patterns shifted dramatically in the back half of 2025.

Lower-income Americans started pulling back first.

Then middle-income families joined them.

Restaurant industry data shows customers are visiting less often and buying fewer items per trip.

McKinsey analysis found "food away from home" prices climbed 6 percent from January 2024 to September 2025 while grocery inflation leveled off.

Wendy's recently launched new Biggie Deals at $4, $6 and $8 price points to compete.

The entire quick-service industry is locked in what analysts call a "value war."

McDonald's brought back Extra Value Meals.

Burger King extended its free fries promotion into 2026.

Chains are converging around the $10 to $12 price point where they're now competing directly with casual dining restaurants.

Industry forecasters predict this pricing battle will dominate through all of 2026.

Singles Awareness Day gives Wendy's the perfect excuse to drop prices while everyone else is still charging Valentine's premiums.

The strategy targets nearly half the country – unmarried adults represent 44.9 percent of U.S. residents 18 and older.

That's not a niche market.

Wendy's bet is simple – give singles a reason to celebrate rather than commiserate, and they'll remember which chain showed up for them.

The promotion proves what restaurant executives discovered in 2025: When Americans tighten their budgets, loyalty goes to whoever delivers the most food for the least money without making customers feel cheap about it.

Singles Awareness Day wraps that proposition in celebration rather than desperation.

Not bad for a holiday that started because some high school kids wanted discounted candy.
