Tucker Carlson Just Exposed The Real Reason Establishment Is Attacking JD Vance

Dec 25, 2025

Charlie Kirk's assassination on September 10 was supposed to unify the conservative movement.

Instead, Washington insiders saw their opening to destroy what Kirk built.

And Tucker Carlson just exposed the real reason establishment Republicans are attacking JD Vance.

Conservative Civil War Erupts At Kirk Memorial Event

Turning Point USA's AmericaFest conference in Phoenix last week descended into open warfare between conservative factions supposedly united by Kirk's memory.

Ben Shapiro kicked off the bloodletting Thursday night by calling Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and Steve Bannon "frauds," "grifters," and "charlatans."¹

Shapiro accused Carlson of "moral imbecility" for interviewing white nationalist Nick Fuentes on his podcast.²

He blasted Megyn Kelly as a "coward" for refusing to condemn conspiracy theories about Kirk's death.³

The attacks came less than an hour before Carlson took the stage at the exact event Kirk had personally invited him to speak at months earlier.

"To hear calls for deplatforming and denouncing people at a Charlie Kirk event, I'm like, what?" Carlson said. "This is hilarious."⁴

Steve Bannon joined the counter-attack Friday, calling Shapiro "a cancer" and accusing him of trying to take over Turning Point USA.⁵

"Ben Shapiro is the farthest thing from MAGA," Bannon declared to cheers from thousands. "He is a hardcore Never Trumper."⁶

Megyn Kelly ended her friendship with Shapiro on stage, mocking his "power to decide who gets excommunicated from the conservative movement."⁷

The chaos threatened to overshadow tributes to Kirk himself at the organization's first major gathering since his assassination.

Carlson Reveals The Real Target

Carlson cut through the noise and identified what's actually happening.

The supposed "civil war" isn't about free speech principles or conspiracy theories.

It's a coordinated assault on Vice President JD Vance ahead of the 2028 presidential election.

"Trump created this amazing coalition, bringing in people who had never voted Republican before but were very enthusiastic about him," Carlson explained. "And that coalition took over the most powerful government in the history of the world."⁸

"So the question becomes: who gets to run it after? Who gets the machinery when the president exits the scene?" Carlson continued. "And there are a lot of people in Washington, maybe even in this room, who aren't quite sure what they want, but they know they don't want J.D. Vance."⁹

The timing proves Carlson's point perfectly.

Erika Kirk, who took over Turning Point USA after her husband's murder, endorsed Vance for president Thursday night.

"We are going to get my husband's friend JD Vance elected for 48 in the most resounding way possible," Kirk declared.¹⁰

The attacks on Carlson and anyone aligned with Vance dominated the entire four-day conference.

America First Versus Israel First

Carlson identified the actual dividing line in this fight.

"They're mad at J.D. Vance because he is the one person right now who really kind of buys the core idea of the Trump coalition," Carlson stated. "Now, what is that idea, ladies and gentlemen? Anyone know? America First."¹¹

"The U.S. government, the largest organization in human history with the most well-funded military in history, ought to, in all the decisions it makes, put the interests of American citizens first," Carlson explained. "If you're not operating the federal government on behalf of U.S. citizens, you're illegitimate. You actually have no right to rule. Period."¹²

Bannon made the stakes explicit when he accused Shapiro of pushing "Greater Israel" and "Israel first" ahead of American interests.¹³

Vance closed the conference Sunday by rejecting the establishment's demand for "purity tests" and ideological purges.

"President Trump did not build the greatest coalition in politics by running his supporters through endless, self-defeating purity tests," Vance said. "We have far more important work to do than canceling each other."¹⁴

Kirk's widow stood by Vance throughout the conference chaos, making clear whose vision for the movement's future her late husband would have supported.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk was supposed to be the end of Turning Point USA's influence.

Instead, Kirk's closest ally now has the backing of the organization's massive volunteer army heading into 2028.

That's exactly what establishment Republicans feared most.
