America is about to celebrate its 250th birthday like no nation ever has before.
President Trump promised the most spectacular anniversary celebration the world has ever seen.
And Trump's America 250 just delivered stunning news about the Times Square ball drop that left everyone speechless.
Times Square breaks 120-year tradition for Trump's patriotic vision
The iconic Times Square ball will drop twice in 2026 for the first time in its 120-year history.
On New Year's Eve, after the traditional midnight countdown, the crystal ball will light up in red, white and blue at 12:04 a.m. for a second patriotic celebration.
America250, the congressional commission organizing the nation's semiquincentennial, announced that 2,000 pounds of red, white and blue confetti will shower down on Times Square while Ray Charles' version of "America the Beautiful" plays with a pyrotechnic finale.
"America250 will kick off the Semiquincentennial year on New Year's Eve in Times Square — the most watched celebration on the planet," Rosie Rios, America250 Chair, stated.¹
The celebration marks the start of what President Trump calls America's biggest birthday party ever planned.
Then the ball drops again on July 3 — the first non-New Year's Eve ball drop since the tradition began in 1907.
That second July ball drop will anchor nationwide Fourth of July celebrations marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed.
"We're proud to serve as the starting point of this historic year, showcasing the nation's celebration on a global stage," Michael Phillips, President of One Times Square, explained.²
The Times Square ball has only failed to drop twice — in 1942 and 1943 during World War II blackouts.
Trump's Freedom 250 initiative powers record-breaking celebration
President Trump launched the Freedom 250 organization to coordinate the most ambitious patriotic celebration in American history.
The initiative brings together all 50 states, major corporations, and grassroots organizations to honor America's founding while launching the next 250 years of freedom and opportunity.
"2026 will mark a celebration of America unlike anything we have ever done," Keith Krach, former Undersecretary of State and Freedom 250 CEO, said.³
Trump created the White House Task Force 250 through executive order in January with himself as chairman and Vice President JD Vance as vice chairman.
The task force coordinates with the existing congressional America250 Commission that's been planning since 2016 under both Republican and Democrat administrations.
But Trump's vision transformed the celebration from standard government programming into a movement that captures the pioneering American spirit.
"Frankly, you'll never see anything like it, and you'll never see anything like it again," Trump said in his announcement video.⁴
The celebration kicks off December 31 when the Washington Monument gets illuminated as a 250-foot birthday candle with nightly projections through January 5 showing key moments in American history.
Trump's planned events include the Great American State Fair on the National Mall featuring all 50 states, the Patriot Games athletic competition with top high school athletes from every state, and a UFC fight at the White House on Flag Day.
A Freedom Tour will visit all 50 states in the order they joined the union, with Cabinet officials and celebrities visiting schools to celebrate American history.
Patriotic celebration aims to unite divided nation
The semiquincentennial comes as American patriotic pride has hit record lows according to polling.
Rios sees the year-long celebration as an opportunity to bring the country together through shared pride in America's founding principles and achievements.
"If we can find something for everyone… having those menus of options that people can pick and choose how they want to participate," Rios told the Associated Press. "That's how we're going to get to engaging 350 million Americans."⁵
America250 launched initiatives including America Gives, a national volunteer service program aiming to make 2026 the record year for community service hours.
America's Field Trip sends students to iconic landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
The organization will participate in the Rose Parade on New Year's Day with a float themed "Soaring Onward Together for 250 Years" featuring three bald eagles representing America's past, present and future.
Events range from massive fireworks displays and statewide potluck suppers to student art contests and citizen oral history projects.
Former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama along with former First Ladies Laura Bush and Michelle Obama serve as Honorary National Co-Chairs of America250, showing bipartisan support for celebrating the nation's founding.
Trump's Freedom 250 works alongside the congressional commission to fund and execute the president's vision for patriotic celebrations that renew American pride and unity.
The Times Square celebrations will reach over 1 billion viewers worldwide, launching what organizers promise will be the most inspiring birthday party any nation has ever thrown for itself.
