Joe Biden's open border disaster ended the day Donald Trump took office.
Trump made a promise to secure the border once and for all.
And Trump just signed off on $8 billion that made Biden furious.
Trump's Smart Wall is turning Biden's border nightmare into a distant memory
Donald Trump awarded five new contracts totaling $3.3 billion to build what his administration calls a "Smart Wall" along the southern border in Texas and Arizona, bringing total spending on the border barrier to $8 billion.¹
This isn't the basic fence Biden canceled when he halted construction on day one of his failed presidency.
Trump's Smart Wall combines 30-foot steel bollards with high-tech surveillance systems including thermal cameras, ground sensors, lighting, patrol roads, and in some locations waterborne barriers to stop cartels from smuggling drugs and trafficking humans across the Rio Grande.
Another 536 miles of rough terrain that can't support physical barriers will be covered by detection technology — meaning the entire 1,954-mile border with Mexico will finally have real security.
"Securing our border is key to protecting our country, keeping our communities safe, and making sure our immigration system works the way it should," said CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott. "A border wall with the right technology — a Smart Wall — is an important tool to stop illegal activity and to help agents do their job, which is critical in keeping America safe."³
The five new contracts will add 97 miles of primary wall, 19 miles of secondary barriers, and 66 miles of waterborne systems. They'll also install 149 miles of detection technology around existing structures where Biden canceled Smart Wall construction.³
This money came from Republicans' One Big Beautiful Bill Act that Congress passed in July with $46.5 billion specifically designated for completing Trump's border wall.⁴
Biden killed border security then wasted four years making excuses
When Biden walked into the Oval Office on January 20, 2021, he immediately halted all border wall construction and canceled contracts that would have finished hundreds of miles of barriers.⁵
The decision cost taxpayers tens of millions in cancellation fees while leaving gaping holes in border security that cartels exploited to flood America with fentanyl and millions of illegal aliens.
Biden claimed he wanted to "redirect" wall funding to other border security measures, but what he really did was leave construction equipment rusting in the desert while Border Patrol agents begged for the resources Trump had already approved.⁶
NPR reported in 2021 that unused steel panels sat stacked along the border gathering dust as Biden refused to let contractors finish walls that were 90% complete in some areas.⁷
When Biden finally resumed some wall construction in 2023, he claimed his "hands were tied" by congressional appropriations he couldn't redirect — the same appropriations his administration spent two years trying to cancel.⁸
The hypocrisy was stunning even by Biden's standards.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has now issued nine waivers since October to fast-track Smart Wall construction in multiple sectors, reversing Biden's obstruction and ensuring contractors can work without environmental groups filing endless lawsuits to delay the work.⁹
The technology Trump is deploying makes Biden's excuses look even more pathetic.
Smart Wall systems include facial recognition cameras, seismic sensors that detect tunnel digging, thermal imaging that works in total darkness, and AI-powered analysis that distinguishes between people, vehicles, and wildlife crossing the border.¹⁰
Border Patrol vehicles can respond within minutes when sensors detect illegal crossings because Trump also built patrol roads alongside the barriers — infrastructure Biden refused to complete.
Under Biden, illegal aliens knew they'd be released into America after surrendering to Border Patrol.
Under Trump, encounters at the border have dropped to one-tenth of Biden's peak months because everyone knows they're getting detained and deported, not given a free bus ticket to New York City.¹¹
Trump proved Biden's "border wall doesn't work" propaganda was always a lie designed to justify the deliberate destruction of border security.
The Smart Wall combines proven Roman Empire frontier tactics with 21st century technology that gives agents "domain awareness" — real-time intelligence about who's crossing where, enabling rapid response that stops illegal traffic.¹²
For years Democrats claimed building a border wall was impossible, too expensive, environmentally destructive, and wouldn't stop illegal immigration anyway.
Trump just proved every single one of those excuses was garbage.
The Smart Wall is being built right now across Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California.
It's working exactly as Trump promised — protecting American communities, stopping cartels, and ending the invasion Biden invited across our southern border.
