There’s no denying Taylor Swift attending drove up viewership.
But Travis Kelce revealed a secret about Taylor Swift and the Super Bowl no one knew before.
The cost of Super Bowl suite
The Netflix docuseries Receiver’s final episode tracked the run-up to the Super Bowl in February.
Camera captured a conversation between Kansas City Chiefs tight end and San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle.
The two discussed ticket arrangements for their family and friends.
“Are you guys doing a suite or,” Kelce asked Kittle.
“No, I can’t,” Kittle replied, saying that his family would sit in the stands with the rest of the fans at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
That’s when Kelce revealed the jaw-dropping price of a luxury suit for the Super Bowl.
“Because they’re f***ing $3 million,” Kelce shot back.
A grinning Kittle joked that the Kelces would be in a suite.
“You guys are gonna be fine,” Kittle responded.
But that was an open question heading into the game.
Kelce’s mother, Donna, told the Today Show that the cost of a luxury suite likely meant she would watch the game from the stands.
“Well, you can understand that the boxes in Vegas are multimillion dollars, so I have a feeling I’m not in a box,” Donna Kelce joked.
“I have a feeling I’m in the stands,” Donna Kelce added.
“As far as I know, I’m in the stands with everybody else because it is a pricey Super Bowl,” Donna Kelce emphasized.
A common problem
Lisa McCaffrey is the mom of 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey.
Even though McCaffrey plays on a contract that pays him $16 million per season, Lisa McCaffrey told Christian’s wife, Olivia Culpo, on her podcast that no one could afford a suite for the Super Bowl.
“We looked into a suite, and none of us can afford it,” Lisa McCaffrey admitted.
“Not even Christian, money bags over there — nor money bags Olivia,” Lisa McCaffrey joked.
These exchanges were illuminating because athletes make millions of dollars and fans presume that money is no issue in their lives.
But these are called “luxury” suites for a reason and there are some things that even millionaires can’t afford.
Donna Kelce ended up in a suite
Donna Kelce watched the Super Bowl – a 25 to 22 overtime thriller won by the Chiefs – from a luxury suite.
There was no way Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, could watch the game from the stands.
Hollywood stars, models, and fellow musicians Blake Lively, Miles Teller, Lana Del Rey, and Cara Delevingne also were in the suit with Swift and the Kelce’s.
George Kittle was absolutely right.
Money was no issue for the Kelces.
And Travis Kelce’s family was going to be just fine in getting to watch the Super Bowl from a suite.
