Tom Selleck just made this shocking announcement about his career ending

Oct 8, 2024

Tom Selleck’s been a beloved actor for over 40 years.

But time comes for everyone.

And Tom Selleck just made this shocking announcement about his career ending.

CBS cancels Blue Bloods

Blue Bloods has been a staple of CBS’s primetime lineup.

The show tells the story of New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan – played by Tom Selleck – and his family who work in law enforcement.

But after 14 seasons, CBS pulled the plug.

Selleck told TV Insider he wasn’t happy about the decision because the show still drew.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” Selleck stated. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.”

In an era where most top TV shows – like Yellowstone or Succession migrate to streaming – and live sports increasingly props up the cable bundle, Blue Bloods was still a legitimate hit.

“In a Top 100 Shows of 2023-2024 (in total viewers, we were number 9 out of 100), if you discount the three football shows, we’re #6 !  I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn!’ I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe,” Selleck added.

Selleck claimed CBS never fully appreciated the show because it was a hit from day one and maintained its audience in a time where TV shows struggle to attract viewers.

“My frustration is the show was always taken for granted because it performed from the get-go. So how do I feel? It’s going to take a long time to sort all of this out,” Selleck continued.

CBS may have not appreciated what they had because Blue Bloods isn’t the type of show woke Hollywood views as important.

The show is about portraying police officers and family in a positive light.

Most leftists today think family is a tool of patriarchal oppression and cops are the enforcers for a systemically racist system.

Selleck discusses the end of Blue Bloods

Selleck recounted to TV Insider how difficult it was to process the end of the show.

“I remember after the weekend [of the final episode’s shoot], I said, ‘I’ve got to get to bed early tonight because I have to do my dialogue for Monday.’ Well, there was no Monday. It’s just going to take a while,” Selleck remarked.

Selleck explained to TV Insider that what made the show so special was the fact that the cast didn’t have to act to portray a family.

“The actors. The family of actors is as close as the Reagan family and the characters that they play. There’s isn’t a single one of them who didn’t want to come back,” Selleck said.

“Most shows don’t end that way — there’s petty jealousy and all sorts of things — and we seemed to overcome that. It’s something for everybody to hang their hats on and be proud of,” Selleck concluded.
