The PTA Used to Plan Bake Sales and Now It Tells Your 5-Year-Old They Are Racist

Jun 1, 2026

Your neighborhood PTA is now running an ICE early warning system for illegal immigrants.

That's not a metaphor.

Local PTA chapters – the ones hosting your school's bake sales and book fairs – are briefing families on how to warn others when federal agents show up.

What the New Report Actually Found

Conservative watchdog Defending Education just dropped a report revealing that the National PTA's radical leftist agenda isn't sitting in some policy binder at headquarters.

It's already in your kids' school.

The National PTA's own curriculum materials declare DEI "central to the organization's mission and day-to-day work."

One stated goal: teach children to "develop critical consciousness by recognizing racism."

In practice, that means pushing Robin DiAngelo's White Fragility on parents and recommending anti-racism audits at the local chapter level.

There's also a document advising that "it's never too early to talk about race with your children" – alongside a recommended reading titled "Your 5-Year-Old Is Already Racially Biased."

"The NPTA should be a politically neutral organization that advocates for improving the education system and the success of all students," Rhyen Staley, Director of Research for Defending Education, told Fox News. "It is deeply concerning when it advances far-left policies that are often very unpopular amongst parents nationwide."

That's putting it mildly.

From Book Fairs to ICE Obstruction

The National PTA holds an official position demanding that schools refuse to share immigration records with ICE.

It also insists schools be treated as "sensitive locations" where federal law enforcement cannot operate.

That position is now flowing downstream to your neighborhood.

Washington State PTA issued guidance in January 2026 – developed in consultation with National PTA – advising local members how to respond if immigration enforcement shows up at a school event.

In Montgomery County, Maryland, a PTA-linked meeting called "ICE Response and Organizing Tools" briefed families on how to alert others about ICE presence in the area.

Washington State PTA also passed a resolution in 2020 requiring member chapters to conduct anti-racism audits, form anti-racism committees, and mandate anti-bias training for all educators at every level.

In Portland, Oregon, Abernethy Elementary's PTA maintains a racial justice lending library stocked with titles including White Rage, Waking Up White, White Like Me, and Raising White Kids – purchased through PTA Mini Grants.

In Ohio, the state PTA chapter urges members to contact lawmakers opposing any bill that would limit classroom discussions of sexual orientation with students.

San Francisco's Second District PTA declared it "can and should establish itself as an anti-racist organization."

This Has Been Building for Decades

This is not a sudden radicalization.

National PTA membership collapsed from more than 12 million in 1965 to around 5 million by 2010.

Parents who left didn't abandon the idea of parent-teacher cooperation.

They abandoned the National PTA specifically – forming independent local PTOs to escape the national organization's political agenda.

The Daily Wire documented as far back as 2021 that the National PTA's annual Legislative Conference had dropped any focus on getting kids back in school after COVID lockdowns.

The agenda was filled instead with ideological training sessions and left-wing priorities with no connection to education.

The pattern is the same every time: National PTA adopts the agenda, pushes it into state chapters through funding and official guidance, and state chapters walk it into local schools – one bake sale fundraiser at a time.

The Trojan Horse in Your School Hallway

The National PTA enjoys a credibility advantage no openly political organization could ever earn.

Parents see the PTA logo on a school event and assume neutral ground.

They volunteer, donate, show up – with no idea the organization running the fundraiser also trains local leaders to obstruct federal immigration enforcement.

"While the public tends to view the PTA as a neutral actor helping to organize family events and raise funds for schools, the national organization and many state and local affiliates have become left-leaning political entities driving radical ideologies into schools, communities, and even state legislation," the Defending Education report states.

The National PTA told Fox News its materials "are designed to encourage respectful dialogue, support family engagement" and reflect its "longstanding commitment to ensuring all children feel supported, valued and able to succeed."

Bake sales. Book fairs. ICE tip lines.

Nancy Pelosi and the teachers unions spent decades building this pipeline into your kids' schools one trusted local chapter at a time.

The bake sale was always the cover.
