Democrats spent years calling voter ID laws racist.
Now Obama's $850 million vanity project is demanding the exact same thing.
And the Obama Presidential Center – opening June 19 in Chicago – requires Illinois residents to show a valid photo ID to claim their free Tuesday admission.
The Rule Democrats Say Is Racist When Republicans Ask For It
The Obama Foundation's own website is clear: Illinois residents "must be able to provide proof of residency" and must "show proof of residency at the Museum with a valid photo ID, Illinois driver's license, state ID, or city-issued ID."
That's the identical requirement Democrats have spent decades attacking as Jim Crow 2.0.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer stood on the Senate floor this past March and declared the SAVE America Act – which requires photo ID to vote – a "voter suppression bill."
His party blocked the legislation, calling it an existential threat to democracy.

Then the Obama Foundation quietly posted the same requirement on its website.
Social media users noticed immediately. "The Obama Presidential Library is making people show an ID for proof of Illinois residency to get in for free," one account posted. "So residents have to prove who they are for this, but not to vote?"
Another put it more bluntly: "It turns out Democrats support requiring ID – but only for free admission into Obama's library."
The Other Half of the Story Obama Does Not Want You to Hear
The ID requirement is actually the least outrageous thing about this project.
Here is what "privately funded" actually meant.
While the $850 million construction tab is privately funded, every road realignment, utility relocation, and drainage system needed to make the campus operational is being paid for by Illinois and Chicago taxpayers – and no single government agency can tell you how much the total bill is.
Fox News Digital spent months filing FOIA requests.
The Illinois Department of Transportation confirmed it has committed approximately $229 million – up from an earlier estimate of $174 million, a $55 million gap that state officials explained in three words: "2017 was preliminary."
Chicago has allocated more than $200 million in related improvements.
The city has yet to reconcile its numbers with the state's.
Meanwhile, a $470 million reserve fund specifically created to protect taxpayers from financial failure has exactly $1 million deposited into it.
One million.
The Obama Foundation also secured 19.3 acres of historic Jackson Park land – designed by the legendary Olmsted and Calvert Vaux – under a 99-year agreement. The price Chicago charged for that land: ten dollars.

Illinois Republican Party Chair Kathy Salvi was direct: taxpayers are being left "on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars" while state leaders engage in the same mismanagement Illinois Democrats have made their brand.
Valerie Jarrett Earns $740,000. You Volunteer.
Here is how the Obama Foundation operates.
CEO Valerie Jarrett – longtime Obama family confidante and former senior White House adviser – pulled in $740,000 in 2024. Same in 2023. Same in 2022.
That is more than the President of the United States earns.
Six of the Foundation's ten highest-paid executives are former Obama administration or campaign officials.
Total compensation at the foundation has ballooned from $18.5 million in 2018 to $43.7 million in 2024.
So how does an organization burning through $43 million a year in salaries and benefits plan to staff the actual museum floor?
Unpaid volunteers.
The Obama Foundation put out a call for 75 to 100 "ambassadors" to greet visitors and guide guests around the facility – for free.

Jarrett herself promoted the volunteer program, invoking Obama's "legacy of civic engagement" and his days as a community organizer on Chicago's South Side.
The community organizer built an $850 million campus for his closest friends, then asked the community to show up for free.
This is the Obama Foundation's version of trickle-down economics – and it only flows one direction.
The center is set to admit its first paying visitors on June 19. Tickets run $30 for adults, $23 for children.
The hypocrisy is not a bug. It is the product.
