Texas Just Sent Dan Crenshaw Home and Told Every RINO in Congress What Comes Next

Mar 5, 2026

Liz Cheney called Dan Crenshaw a fellow traveler – and last night Texas proved her right.

Steve Toth just did to Houston what Wyoming did to Cheney four years ago.

The four-term congressman who called Tucker Carlson's listeners grifters, backed Ukraine over America, and refused to stand with Trump in 2020 just got fired by the voters he thought would never do it.

Steve Toth Beat Crenshaw by 19 Points Despite a $1.5 Million Fundraising Deficit

Toth beat Crenshaw by nearly 19 points.

Not a squeaker. Not a nail-biter. A blowout in a district where Crenshaw outspent his challenger by more than $1.5 million.

Money didn't save him. Endorsements from Jim Jordan and the NRA didn't save him. A purple heart and a navy SEAL trident didn't save him.

What ended him was simpler. Crenshaw spent years telling conservative voters they were being manipulated by "grifters" and "performance artists" while he was the real deal. Last night, 56 percent of his own district disagreed.

Ted Cruz watched Crenshaw vote against his aviation safety bill, then dropped a late endorsement for Toth with an ad that said: "You deserve an unwavering fighter, a Republican who walks the walk."

Cruz didn't have to say Crenshaw's name. Didn't need to.

The House Freedom Caucus piled on. Turning Point USA piled on. Twenty-one Texas state legislators endorsed Toth. The entire America First infrastructure that Crenshaw had spent years mocking showed up – and it showed up for the other guy.

Why Trump Refused to Endorse Crenshaw and What That Cost Him

Crenshaw made one fatal miscalculation. He believed his military record was a hall pass.

It wasn't. Not anymore.

For years, the eye patch worked as political armor. He lost that eye fighting in Afghanistan. He earned his credibility the hard way. Nobody questioned his sacrifice.

But sacrifice in battle doesn't buy unlimited grace in politics – not when voters are watching you certify an election you knew was disputed, send money to Ukraine while American families struggled, and go on camera calling your own base suckers for trusting conservative media.

Tucker Carlson started calling him "Eyepatch McCain" in 2022. Crenshaw's response was to threaten to kill Tucker in a hot mic moment that leaked in February 2025.

That's when it was over. You don't threaten the man millions of conservative voters watch every week and then ask those same voters to send you back to Washington.

"My relationship with Trump is good," Crenshaw told the Houston Chronicle days before the primary. He said he worked closely with Hegseth, Ratcliffe, and Patel. He said anyone who doubted his loyalty wasn't paying attention.

The voters were paying attention. That was the problem.

The Pattern That Should Terrify Every Establishment Republican

This is not a one-off. This is a trend.

Liz Cheney lost Wyoming by nearly 37 points in 2022 after crossing Trump on impeachment. Adam Kinzinger read the writing on the wall and retired rather than face the same fate. One by one, the Republicans who bet against Trump's base found out what happens.

Crenshaw watched all of it and thought he was different.

Steve Toth ran as an ordained pastor and state legislator who had been personally endorsed by President Trump in his previous races. On the trail, he put the choice in the plainest possible terms: Republicans who win elections need to govern like it, not play games with the people who sent them there.

Texas voters chose the man who understood the difference.

The seat stays red – Toth faces Democrat Shaun Finnie in November in a district that hasn't gone blue in decades. What changes is who sits in it. A man who will fight like he means it instead of one who will lecture voters about their own gullibility.

Toth's victory statement said everything: "This campaign has been a referendum on representatives who campaign one way and govern another, and the people have spoken."

That's not just Crenshaw's obituary. That's the warning label on every remaining RINO in the House.
