Susie Wiles Packed a Room With Cabinet Secretaries and What She Told Them Should Have Democrats Terrified

Feb 23, 2026

Biden spent three years swearing the economy was great and voters were just too dumb to see it.

That message bombed so spectacularly that Democrats lost the White House, the Senate, and any claim to understanding how normal Americans live.

Now Trump's team just held a meeting that proves they learned exactly the right lesson – and what came out of that room five days before the State of the Union should keep Chuck Schumer up at night.

Inside Trump's 2026 Midterm Strategy Session at the Capitol Hill Club

Tuesday evening, Susie Wiles – arguably the most disciplined political operator in Washington right now – gathered roughly 75 to 100 people at the Capitol Hill Club, a private venue just steps from the Capitol and next door to the Republican National Committee headquarters.

This was not a pep rally.

Scott Bessent was there. Howard Lutnick was there. RFK Jr. was there. Sean Duffy was there. Cabinet secretaries and their most senior aides, sitting through a two-hour working session over a chicken-and-steak buffet, focused on one thing: how to win November.

Pollster Tony Fabrizio ran through 25 slides of hard data – demographics, issue salience, message testing – and delivered a message blunt enough to cut through any Washington wishful thinking.

The economy is THE issue. Not immigration. Not foreign policy. Not Epstein. Not January 6. The economy.

Tony Fabrizio's Economy Data Reveals What the State of the Union Must Deliver

Here's the part that should alarm every Democrat running in 2026.

James Blair – the White House's political czar – stood up after Fabrizio and delivered the most important line of the night.

Blair told the room flatly that you can't talk voters into believing they're doing well economically. They have to actually feel it.

Biden never understood that. His team spent 2021, 2022, and 2023 flooding the airwaves with statistics about job growth and GDP while Americans stood in grocery store aisles watching their cart costs double. The data said one thing. Their bank accounts said another. Voters trusted their bank accounts.

Trump's team is not making that mistake.

Fabrizio's data identified four messages that break through with key voters: banning stock trading for members of Congress, health insurance pricing transparency, lowering prescription drug costs, and protecting the Trump tax cuts. Housing affordability is also on the list – a kitchen-table issue with particular bite for younger voters.

Notice what those messages have in common. Every single one is something voters feel in their daily lives. Not abstractions. Not policy frameworks. Groceries, prescriptions, rent.

This Is the State of the Union Preview Democrats Weren't Supposed to See

Five days from now, Trump stands before a joint session of Congress for his first official 2026 State of the Union of his second term – and Bret Baier told Fox News viewers Wednesday it might be the longest State of the Union address ever delivered.

That is not an idle prediction. Trump already holds the record for the longest presidential address to a joint session of Congress – his March 2025 speech ran one hour and 39 minutes, breaking Bill Clinton's previous mark. If Tuesday's Capitol Hill Club session is any guide, he arrives at that podium with a unified Cabinet, a tested economic message, and a specific playbook built from 25 slides of voter data.

Democrats are sending 12 of their members to sit it out entirely rather than show up and absorb what's coming.

That tells you everything about how confident they are in their own counter-argument.

The historical headwinds are real – Blair spelled them out directly, because Trump's team respects its own voters enough to be honest. Since World War II, the president's party has almost always lost House seats in midterms, sometimes dozens. Nobody in that room pretended otherwise.

But there's a reason Susie Wiles called this meeting now, five days before the biggest presidential address in years. They're not waiting to get on the same page. They already are. The message is locked. The messengers are briefed. The Cabinet is hitting the road.

The State of the Union is five days away. Trump walks in with unified Cabinet, tested economic messaging, and 25 slides of voter data behind him. Democrats are boycotting rather than answering. That's not a resistance strategy – that's a forfeit.
