New York City elected a self-described socialist as mayor.
Now that socialist is bragging that he can get one elected president.
Steve Forbes just told Fox News what happens to every country that makes the same mistake New York just made.
The Threat Lincoln Saw Coming
Forbes sat down with Fox News Digital this week at FreedomFest in Las Vegas – the country’s largest annual gathering of free minds – and he didn’t mince words about what’s happening to America.
“Whatever you call it, communism, socialism, extreme leftism, anti-Semitism, it’s all the same disease,” Forbes said.
Then he reached back to Abraham Lincoln for the diagnosis.

Lincoln warned in the 1800s that foreign forces wouldn’t destroy the United States – it would be what Americans do to themselves internally.
And right now, America is doing it to herself.
What’s Actually Happening in New York
Zohran Mamdani – a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America – is now the mayor of the biggest city in America.
He wants government-owned grocery stores.
He wants rent freezes.
He wants to tax the wealthy into oblivion.
And after three more socialists won Democrat congressional primaries in New York City last month, Mamdani went on national television and declared that a democratic socialist can be elected president of the United States.
“I think a democratic socialist can get elected anywhere across this country for any position,” Mamdani told ABC News.
Trump addressed the socialist surge directly at Mount Rushmore on July 3rd.
“You can be loyal to Karl Marx or you can be loyal to America,” Trump told the crowd assembled beneath the faces of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Roosevelt. “You can be a communist or you can be a patriot. You cannot be both.”

Trump called communism a greater threat to America than World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor, or 9/11.
Forbes agrees.
The Playbook the Left Has Been Running for Decades
The left doesn’t win by being right – it wins by claiming the moral high ground.
“Even if you wreck people’s lives, kill millions of people under socialism, communism, your intentions were good,” Forbes said.
That’s the game.
They blame capitalism for every problem government policy created.
When Washington inflates the currency and destroys purchasing power, the left blames Wall Street.
When federal housing policy drives rents through the roof, the left blames landlords.
When government regulations strangle small businesses, the left blames corporations.
Forbes has been watching this con for 50 years.
“What happens is when governments start making mistakes and doing things that people don’t like,” he said, “they blame it on capitalism. They blame it on free markets. So they help wreck free markets and then say, ‘The victim is the cause of it.'”

That’s Mamdani’s entire platform – and now he’s running it as mayor of New York and eyeing the rest of the country.
What Forbes Wants Trump to Do About It
Forbes isn’t just sounding the alarm – he has a prescription.
More tax cuts.
More deregulation.
Make the economic case personal.
“Bring out examples of people who have benefited enormously from not taxing overtime, not taxing tips,” Forbes said.
He wants Trump to run it like a late-night infomercial – show real Americans whose lives got better because of free enterprise.
Then come with the moral argument: free enterprise isn’t just more productive than socialism, it’s more moral – it lets people, as Lincoln believed, improve their lot in life on their own terms.
That’s the argument Forbes says the right keeps forgetting to make – and it’s the only one that beats the left’s moral posturing long-term.
Forbes is handing conservatives the ammunition to win that debate at the kitchen table.
The question is whether the Republican Party is paying attention – because Mamdani just announced he’s coming for the whole country.
