Ayanna Pressley has spent years positioning herself as a champion of the oppressed.
But when someone tried to ask her a simple question about fraud, things got violent.
And Squad member's ex-con husband slapped a phone away when a reporter asked this one question.
Pressley's Husband Attacked Reporter Inside City Hall
Massachusetts Democrat Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley was walking through Chelsea City Hall on Monday when a reporter approached with his phone recording.
The question was straightforward enough.
"Congresswoman Pressley, do you support –"
That's as far as he got before Conan Harris, Pressley's husband, smacked the phone right out of his hand.
"Sir, you cannot take my phone out of my hand," the reporter said as he picked up his device.
Harris did a decade in federal prison on drug trafficking charges before marrying Pressley in 2014.
She's said his criminal record informs how she advocates for incarcerated people.
But Harris wasn't interested in answering questions about his wife's policy positions.
After the first attempt failed, the reporter tried again.
"Congresswoman Pressley, do you support President Trump investigating Somali childcare fraud in Minnesota?"
Pressley walked away without responding, surrounded by her staff.
The reporter never got his answer.
Trump Just Cut $10 Billion From Five Blue States Over Fraud
The confrontation happened the same day Trump's administration announced it was freezing $10 billion in federal childcare funds to five Democrat-controlled states.
California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, and New York all got hit.
The Office of Management and Budget cited fraud and funds going to illegal aliens as the reason for the freeze.
Minnesota has become ground zero for the fraud scandal after a viral video showed supposedly operational childcare centers that appeared to be empty buildings collecting government checks.
The FBI already charged 77 people in connection with a $250 million pandemic fraud scheme involving childcare centers in Minnesota's Somali community.
Most of those charged were of Somali descent, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said prosecutors charged 98 individuals in Minnesota as part of the investigation, with 85 of them being Somali.
"The fraud in California, New York and Illinois is far greater than in Minnesota," Elon Musk posted this week.
"My guess for how much fraud is happening nationwide is roughly 10% of the Federal budget, so about $700 billion per year."
Federal prosecutors said roughly $9 billion in funding for Minnesota social assistance programs may have been stolen since 2018 across 14 different programs.
That's not a rounding error.
That's organized criminal enterprise operating under the cover of social services.
Pressley Built Empire While Pushing Radical Policies
Questions about fraud are particularly sensitive for Pressley given her own financial situation.
The Squad member who campaigns as a champion of the working class now has assets valued at up to $8 million.
That includes a $1.1 million vacation home on Martha's Vineyard.
Her five rental properties brought in between $145,000 and $350,000 in 2024 alone.
Harris launched his consulting firm Conan Harris & Associates in 2019, the same year Pressley took office in Congress.
His company landed a partnership role in a $250 million housing development project approved by Boston Mayor Michelle Wu in April 2024.
Not bad for a guy who did a decade in prison for drug trafficking.
Boston media first reported the Martha's Vineyard property, since local outlets in Massachusetts seem uninterested in how Squad members accumulate millions while denouncing capitalism.
When asked about the couple's wealth, Pressley's office claimed it was "misleading" to link Harris's income and property with hers.
That's an interesting defense given that married couples file joint tax returns and share assets under Massachusetts law.
Harris attacked a reporter for trying to ask about fraud investigation.
Pressley refused to answer whether she supports Trump investigating the billions stolen from taxpayers.
And both of them got rich after she entered Congress.
The American people are paying attention to who gets defensive when someone asks about fraud.
