Joe Biden stood in front of the country and said he needed Congress to pass a law before he could stop the border invasion.
The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 today that he was lying.
Here's what Alito said to Sotomayor's face – and why it ended the argument.
The Lie That Opened the Border
Biden's entire border strategy rested on one claim: his hands were tied.
Biden repeated it for four years as millions of economic migrants poured across the southern border.
Democrats echoed it on every cable news hit they could book.
The Senate Republican caucus called it out in a formal resolution, stating plainly that Biden "used executive power to open the border and has the authority to close and secure the border but is purposefully failing to do so."

Republicans were right. Biden was lying.
The Supreme Court confirmed it today in Mullin v. Al Otro Lado – and the left didn't take it quietly.
What the Court Actually Decided
The ruling is simple enough for a bumper sticker.
If you're standing in Mexico, you haven't arrived in the United States.
Justice Samuel Alito wrote the majority opinion for all six conservative justices: someone standing in Mexico "does not 'arriv[e] in the United States' by attempting, and failing, to set foot in this country."
That one-word question – what does "in" mean – was the entire fight.
The Ninth Circuit said economic migrants pressing against the border line had legally "arrived in" the U.S. and were entitled to asylum hearings.
Six Supreme Court justices said that's insane.
The policy at issue is called "metering" – border agents physically stationed at the line turning back migrants before they cross.

It started under Obama.
Trump expanded it in 2017 and formalized it with a memo in 2018. Biden killed it in 2021 when he threw open the gates.
Today's ruling says it was legal all along.
The Meltdown on the Bench
Sonia Sotomayor was so angry she did something rare – she read her dissent aloud from the bench.
Justices reserve that for when they want to make a scene. She made one.
She invoked the MS St. Louis – the 1939 ship carrying Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany that America turned away.
She said the majority's ruling "regrettably and tragically extinguishes the light of the torch of the Statue of Liberty."
Then something remarkable happened.
Justice Alito responded directly from the bench. He told Sotomayor he hadn't expected her to read her dissent aloud – then cut straight to the point that demolished her argument: Obama did this too.
Two Democrat administrations used metering.
Biden's own party invented it.
"I won't add anything more to that," Alito said.
He didn't need to.

The dissent was also signed by Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson. Jackson argued the court shouldn't have taken the case at all since metering isn't currently in use and the Trump administration has "no concrete plans to reinstate" it.
The majority's response was straightforward: the administration needed legal clarity so it could act if border conditions deteriorated again.
What Comes Next
The ruling doesn't automatically restart metering.
It clears the legal roadblock that the Ninth Circuit had erected.
The White House wasted no time.
Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson called it a "tremendous win" and said it affirmed Trump's authority to manage the border.
It also demolishes the central lie of the Biden years.
Al Otro Lado – the immigration advocacy group that brought the original 2017 lawsuit – makes money from migrants who successfully enter the U.S. economy.
They spent nine years arguing that physically standing at the border line counts as arrival in America.
Six justices just shut them down.

Here's what the mainstream press won't tell you: Biden's DHS didn't just fail to enforce asylum law – it deliberately dismantled it.
The Heritage Foundation documented that DHS Secretary Mayorkas replaced trained immigration judges with asylum officers who rubber-stamped fraudulent claims without cross-examination.
Weak cases got waved through.
Fraud got rewarded.
The border wasn't open because Biden lacked tools.
It was open because Biden and Mayorkas chose to open it – and spent four years lying to the country about why.
The court handed Trump the legal green light to run the border the way Obama originally designed it – and the way common sense always demanded.
