Sadie Robertson watched her eight-month-old daughter stop breathing right in front of her.
Now the Duck Dynasty star is sharing the story.
And she says what she did in those seconds before paramedics arrived could save your child's life.
What to Do When a Baby Starts Choking
Kit Carroway Huff was sitting in her high chair eating a snack while Sadie finished dinner prep when the choking started.
It escalated in seconds.
"Within seconds, you could tell the severity of the situation," Robertson wrote on Instagram. "My mom pulled her from the high chair and placed my girl into my arms just as she stopped breathing."

What happened next – three women going into simultaneous action – is exactly the kind of coordinated response that saves lives.
Robertson's mother called 911.
The rest of the room began to pray.
And Sadie Robertson started CPR on her own baby.
"I can only explain it now like my body just knew what to do," she wrote. "I felt God's Spirit guiding me, partnering with me in what I had learned and seen."
She had watched CPR videos before – specifically hoping she would never need them.
She needed them.
Robertson wrote that after following the choking protocol and performing CPR, Kit "miraculously coughed and began to breathe, just as the paramedics arrived."
Kit spent one night in the hospital for observation and made a full recovery.
On the ambulance ride to the hospital, Christian Huff – driving behind – spotted a rainbow over the ambulance the entire way there.

Infant Choking Kills One American Child Every Five Days
Here is the number that should stop every grandparent cold: choking kills one child in the United States every five days.
Three-quarters of those deaths happen in children under five years old.
Choking is the fourth leading cause of unintentional injury death in this country, according to the National Safety Council.
For infants – babies under one year old – the danger is especially acute.
Brain damage from oxygen deprivation can begin in as little as four minutes.
Most parents and grandparents do not know what to do when it happens.
The American Heart Association updated its CPR guidelines in October 2025 with new guidance on infant choking – the first full revision since 2020.

For infants, the protocol is five back blows delivered with the heel of one hand, alternating with five chest thrusts – not abdominal thrusts, which pose a risk of injury to an infant's organs.
If the infant becomes unresponsive, start CPR immediately.
This is not complicated.
It is learnable in one afternoon.
And Sadie Robertson's daughter is alive today because her mother spent the time to learn it.
The Infant CPR Steps Robertson Used That Every Grandparent Should Know
Robertson was deliberate in going public with something she called "hard to talk about."
"I do feel it is worth sharing because I truly believe awareness of it will save lives," she wrote.
She is right.
Seventy percent of cardiac arrests – in people of all ages – occur at home, not in a hospital, not near a first responder, but in the exact setting where Sadie Robertson found herself: in her own kitchen, holding her own child, with paramedics still minutes away.
That kitchen could just as easily be yours.
"Preparation and knowledge in the spiritual and physical sense can be a gift that you can give yourself and your family," Robertson wrote.
She also pointed to something deeper than technique – the kind of faith that does not freeze in a crisis.
This is a family that has been living in the space between faith and loss for nearly a year, ever since Robertson family patriarch Phil Robertson died in May 2025 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease.
One of the last things he said to Sadie: "Full strength ahead."
Those words have clearly shaped how she moves through moments of terror – with action, not paralysis.
Kit Carroway Huff is now perfectly healthy – winning over nurses within hours of arriving at the hospital, according to her mother – and her name carries a little extra weight now.
Kit's middle name, Carroway, comes from the maiden name of Sadie's grandmother, Miss Kay.
Every grandparent watching Duck Dynasty: The Revival this season knows the family that makes it.
What they may not know is how to do what Sadie Robertson did when it mattered most.
You might be the one holding that grandchild when it happens.
Learn it before you need it.
