Rosie O’Donnell Fled America Over Trump and Secretly Got a Facelift She Once Called a Betrayal of Feminism

May 29, 2026

Rosie O'Donnell spent years declaring plastic surgery a moral crime against women.

She also spent years declaring Donald Trump a threat so dangerous she had to flee the country and beg Ireland for citizenship.

Now she's back in Dublin – with a new face and a Substack essay explaining why the rules she made for every woman on earth didn't actually apply to her.

The Woman Who Appointed Herself Judge of All Female Faces

O'Donnell didn't have a casual opinion about plastic surgery.

She had a moral position.

"I had assigned myself as head of all women who would never – ever," she wrote this week on Substack.

She called it a "betrayal of feminism."

She called it a betrayal of "aging."

She called it a betrayal of "our team of women worldwide."

That's not a preference.

That's a proclamation from someone who decided she had the authority to set the rules for half the human race.

For years she said publicly she'd never go under the knife – that avoiding surgery would give her better acting roles as she aged, that it was a principled stand, and that young women were watching.

She was right about that last part.

Then She Lost 50 Pounds and Changed Her Mind

After shedding the weight on Monjaro, O'Donnell looked in the mirror and had a change of heart.

"This isn't aging, this is melting with intention," she wrote.

The feminist-in-chief hired a surgeon and had a lower deep plane facelift in January – the same month Trump was inaugurated for the second time.

Her 13-year-old child, Clay, found out and delivered a verdict: "I wouldn't be able to respect you if you did it."

O'Donnell wrote that one "landed."

Then she did it anyway.

She says no one noticed – not even her daughter.

The result, by her own description, is "zippo."

She just looks "slightly more well-rested, emotionally stable."

The procedure cost more "than I have ever paid for a car."

The Feminist Who Lived in a Glass House

O'Donnell didn't just hold a personal preference about cosmetic surgery – she built her public identity around judging women who made a different choice.

She weaponized a national platform against an entire category of personal decision.

And when it became personally inconvenient, she quietly booked the surgery, kept it secret for months, and then wrote an essay explaining why her evolution was actually a more sophisticated form of feminism.

This is the same woman who fled to Ireland rather than live in Trump's America – the same woman who spent years on The View and across cable television calling Trump a danger to democracy, women's rights, and human decency.

She ran from the country where she appointed herself its women's moral guardian.

She got the surgery she condemned.

And then she published an essay explaining why she was still right about everything.

This Is What Liberal Feminism Actually Looks Like

The rules were never meant for Rosie O'Donnell.

They were meant for you – for regular women who couldn't afford the surgery, who worked at jobs where no one photographed their face, who looked in the mirror and made their own choices without an audience watching.

O'Donnell had the money. She had the surgeon.

She had the security of knowing she could keep it secret until she was ready to explain it on her own terms.

Trump called it the moment she fled – "Ireland, you can keep her!" The White House called her Irish citizenship application "great news for America."

The woman who declared herself the conscience of feminism is now living in Dublin with a new neck, applying for citizenship in another country, and telling the internet she feels "shameful."

She should.

Not because she got the facelift.

Because she spent years making other women feel shameful for making the same choice.
