Riley Gaines and 31 Olympians just delivered one crushing blow to trans athletes that has Democrats panicking

Dec 30, 2025

The battle over who gets to compete in women's sports reached a critical turning point this year.

Trump's executive order changed everything overnight.

And Riley Gaines and 31 Olympians just delivered one crushing blow to trans athletes that has Democrats panicking.

Trump made saving women's sports a Day One priority

President Trump kicked off 2025 by fulfilling a campaign promise conservatives had waited years to see delivered.

On February 5, just 16 days into his second term, Trump signed the "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports" executive order that turned the entire debate on its head.

Within 24 hours, the NCAA caved completely.

The nation's largest college sports governing body announced women's sports competition would be limited to athletes assigned female at birth.

But the fight was far from over.

Democrat-controlled states like California, Maine, Minnesota, and Illinois openly defied Trump's order and kept their policies allowing males in girls' sports.

Maine's defiance created immediate consequences.

A trans athlete won an indoor girls' track and field state championship days after Trump's order took effect.

Trump threatened to cut federal funding from states that refused to comply.

The Department of Education launched Title IX investigations.

The Department of Justice filed lawsuits against California and Maine.

Trump even froze $175 million in federal funds to the University of Pennsylvania over the Lia Thomas controversy until the school agreed to ban trans athletes and erase Thomas's records from the program's history.

Supreme Court set to decide the issue once and for all

The Supreme Court agreed to hear two blockbuster cases that could settle the matter nationwide.

Little v. Hecox challenges Idaho's 2020 law that became the first in the nation to ban transgender women and girls from women's sports teams at all levels.

West Virginia v. B.P.J. challenges West Virginia's 2021 Save Women's Sports Act that restricts participation based on biological sex.

The cases are scheduled for oral arguments on January 13, 2026.

A decision is expected by June 2026.

But 130 congressional Democrats just threw their full weight behind the trans athletes.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Jasmine Crockett all signed an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to strike down state laws protecting women's sports.

The brief argued the bans violated Title IX and equal protection.

Democrats doubled down even after the issue helped cost them the 2024 election.

Multiple polls showed a majority of Americans, including a majority of Democrats, opposed letting biological males compete in women's sports.

Olympic legends enter the fight

Riley Gaines and a coalition of world-class athletes just fired back with their own amicus brief that exposes the Democrats' argument as complete garbage.

Former college swimmer Gaines, who tied with Lia Thomas at the 2022 NCAA championships, led a brief signed by 31 Olympians defending state bans on trans athletes.

The brief includes 12 Olympic medalists and eight gold medalists.

Super Bowl-winning head coach Barry Switzer also signed on.

The document has 124 total signatures when including family members of athletes.

These aren't armchair activists.

These are the most elite female athletes in the world telling the Supreme Court what every parent with a daughter already knows.

Biological males have physical advantages in strength, speed, and endurance that hormone therapy doesn't eliminate.

The brief detailed how research shows that even with testosterone suppression, males retain advantages in lean body mass, muscle size, bone density, and skeletal structure.

Male athletes who transition retain significant performance advantages that make competition fundamentally unfair.

One section of the brief spelled out the consequences in devastating detail.

The United Nations estimated in 2024 that biological males won 890 medals in 29 different women's sports.

Over 600 female athletes lost medals and accolades because males were allowed to compete in their sports.

Some girls suffered permanent injuries competing against biological males.

Payton McNabb suffered partial paralysis during a high school volleyball match in 2022 when a trans opponent spiked the ball into her face.

Democrats chose the wrong hill to die on

Trump introduced McNabb during his joint address to Congress in March.

When Trump honored her and her story, only Republicans applauded.

Democrats sat in silence.

The visual of Democrats refusing to clap for a young woman who suffered brain damage competing against a biological male said everything about where the party stands.

Democrats are still fighting for policies that put girls at risk of injury while denying them fair competition.

130 congressional Democrats put their names on a brief defending this madness.

Meanwhile, Olympic gold medalists, world champions, and the most successful female athletes in history filed their own brief explaining why protecting women's sports matters.

The Supreme Court now has two competing visions in front of them.

Democrats arguing that feelings trump biology.

Olympic legends arguing that fairness and safety require sex-based categories in sports.

Trump's executive order already changed the landscape.

The NCAA policy change proved that Trump forcing the issue worked.

But a Supreme Court ruling upholding state bans would lock in protections for girls and women nationwide.

Democrats picked this fight knowing they were on the losing side with voters.

They're about to find out they picked the losing side with the Supreme Court too.
