Prince Harry picked one date for his charity appearance that exposes his calculated PR strategy

Prince Harry thinks he’s found the perfect way to rehabilitate his tattered image.

The Duke of Sussex is heading back to London for a charity event while still refusing to reconcile with his family.

And Prince Harry picked one date for his charity appearance that exposes his calculated PR strategy.

Harry schedules charity appearance on Queen Elizabeth’s death anniversary

Prince Harry announced he’ll show up at the annual WellChild Awards on September 8 – exactly three years after Queen Elizabeth II passed away.¹

The timing isn’t lost on anyone paying attention.

Harry has been patron of the children’s medical charity since 2007, making this one of the few causes he kept after abandoning his royal duties and fleeing to California in 2020.

But here’s what makes this appearance so calculated.

The same event in 2022? Harry cancelled it to rush to Balmoral Castle when the Queen was dying.

Now he’s using the anniversary of her death for a PR appearance while maintaining his bitter estrangement from the royal family.

Harry hasn’t seen his father King Charles since February 2024, shortly after Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis.²

When Harry returned to the UK in May 2024 for the Invictus Games anniversary and again in September for last year’s WellChild Awards, he didn’t bother visiting his sick father.

Relations remain ice-cold with his brother Prince William and Kate Middleton too.

Harry’s charity appearance becomes another PR stunt

Harry knows his approval ratings in Britain are in the gutter after his Netflix attacks on the royal family and his tell-all memoir "Spare."

So he’s using sick children as props for image rehabilitation.

The WellChild Awards celebrate seriously ill children and their caregivers – genuinely inspiring people who deserve recognition.

But Harry’s presence overshadows their stories and turns the focus onto his own drama.

"I am always privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit," Harry said in his carefully crafted statement.³

Notice how he makes it about himself being "privileged" rather than focusing entirely on the children.

The charity’s CEO Matt James plays along with the PR game, gushing about how "having Prince Harry, the WellChild patron, with us not only allows us to provide them with a night they will never forget, but also provides a powerful platform to tell their stories and show the world what it’s like when caring for a child with complex medical needs."⁴

Translation: Harry’s celebrity brings media attention the charity wouldn’t get otherwise.

The timing reveals Harry’s calculated strategy

Harry is using the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death – the woman he claims to have loved deeply – for a PR opportunity while refusing to heal the family wounds he created.

The Queen died on September 8, 2022, surrounded by family members who rushed to Scotland to be with her.

Harry was supposed to be at this same charity event that night but cancelled to join the family vigil.

Now he’s treating the anniversary like just another date on his rehabilitation tour calendar.

Harry told the BBC in May that he "would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore" but admits "some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for … lots of things."⁵

If he genuinely wanted reconciliation, he wouldn’t be scheduling PR events that exploit the Queen’s memory while maintaining his estrangement from Charles and William.

The royal family sources reportedly met with Harry’s aides in July for the first time since his California exile, raising hopes for a breakthrough.

But actions speak louder than carefully worded statements to sympathetic journalists.

Here’s the brutal truth the media won’t tell you: Harry is using these sick children as human shields for his image problems.

The WellChild Awards should be about celebrating courage and highlighting the dedication of parents and medical professionals caring for seriously ill children.

Instead, Harry’s appearance guarantees the headlines will focus on royal family drama and speculation about potential reconciliation.

Those inspiring families deserve better than being background players in Harry’s ongoing revenge fantasy against his own relatives.

The timing on Queen Elizabeth’s death anniversary isn’t coincidental – it’s calculated to maximize the emotional impact and media coverage.

For folks who remember when the royal family actually served the country instead of serving their own egos, this is exactly the kind of self-serving behavior that destroyed Harry’s reputation in the first place.
