Operation Absolute Resolve: Trump Revealed How CIA And Cyber Command Shut Down Caracas Before Delta Force Captured Maduro

Jan 13, 2026

Trump's January 3 raid on Venezuela looked like a military miracle.

More than 150 aircraft overwhelmed Maduro's defenses while Delta Force grabbed him from his compound.

But Trump just revealed how CIA and Cyber Command shut down Caracas before Delta Force captured Maduro in Operation Absolute Resolve.

US Cyber Command Blacked Out Caracas Power Grid During Operation Absolute Resolve

Trump ordered Operation Absolute Resolve that captured Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro after months of CIA intelligence gathering and military buildup.

The operation kicked off around 2:00 AM local time when Caracas went completely dark.

"The lights of Caracas were largely turned off due to a certain expertise that we have," Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago.

That wasn't coincidence.

US Cyber Command deliberately shut down Venezuela's electrical grid as American helicopters approached Maduro's compound at Fort Tiuna.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Dan Caine confirmed US Space Command and Cyber Command worked with other agencies to cripple Venezuela's defenses before the raid started.

NetBlocks, a company monitoring global network connectivity, confirmed web services in Caracas got knocked offline during the attack.

The disruption looked like a massive DDoS operation that overwhelmed the city's servers.

Venezuela's state power company Corpoelec admitted power substations around Caracas were knocked out as part of what they called a "planned maneuver."

Videos from the scene showed lights going off immediately without any flickering that happens during normal rolling blackouts.

Power came back on at affected substations within two hours after US forces extracted Maduro.

That precision timing proves this wasn't random infrastructure failure.

Miguel Clarke, a former FBI Supervisory Special Agent specializing in cyber operations, said the pattern suggests "deliberate, reversible interference designed to enable a specific operational window."

CIA assets had been on the ground in Venezuela since August tracking Maduro's movements and mapping his security.

Trump confirmed in October 2025 he authorized CIA covert operations in Venezuela.

Those agents provided detailed intelligence on Maduro's headquarters and Venezuelan air defense positions around Caracas.

Mark Cancian from the Center for Strategic & International Studies said the combination of human intelligence, overhead surveillance, and electromagnetic monitoring meant US forces knew exactly where every threat was positioned.

Russian S-300 Air Defenses Failed During 150-Aircraft Venezuela Strike

Venezuela spent $2 billion on Russian S-300 air defense systems that were supposed to make the country untouchable.

Maduro bragged about the missiles as recently as October 2024 after receiving additional Pantsir systems from Russia.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth mocked the Russian equipment after Operation Absolute Resolve.

"Seems those Russian air defenses didn't quite work so well, did they?" Hegseth told reporters in Newport News, Virginia.

Not a single US aircraft got shot down during the 150-aircraft strike.

Only one helicopter took a hit and seven service members suffered injuries, all now recovering.

The New York Times reported the S-300 systems weren't even connected to radar when US forces entered Venezuelan airspace.

Venezuela's air defenses weren't networked together and may not have been operational for years according to US officials and independent analysts.

Poor maintenance, corruption, and lack of training left Venezuela's military completely exposed despite spending billions on Russian equipment.

The S-300's radar proved to be its fatal weakness.

When Venezuelan operators turned on the radar at full power trying to see through American jamming, they broadcast their exact position to every weapon hunting them.

EA-18G Growler electronic warfare aircraft forced Venezuelan radar operators to increase power output just to see anything.

That made them sitting ducks.

US forces fired anti-radiation missiles that lock onto radar signals and destroy the source.

F-22s, F-35s, B-1 bombers, and other US aircraft systematically destroyed Venezuela's air defense network in under 20 minutes.

"As the force began to approach Caracas, the joint air component began dismantling and disabling the air defense systems in Venezuela," Caine explained during a press briefing.

By the time Delta Force helicopters carrying the extraction team approached Caracas, Venezuela's military was blind, deaf, and completely defenseless.

Operation Absolute Resolve proves Russian air defense systems fail catastrophically when facing real American military capabilities.

Countries like Iran, North Korea, and China watching closely just learned their Russian equipment is worthless against US forces.

Even more concerning for Russia, US special operations forces are now reverse engineering captured S-300 systems.

America now owns the guidance chips, source code for Russian target tracking, and specific waveforms Russian jets use to communicate with missiles.

Every Russian ally using S-300 systems just got exposed.

For the next 20 years, Russia's clients will be fighting with equipment America already knows how to defeat.

Democrats in Congress complained Trump didn't get congressional approval for Operation Absolute Resolve.

Senator Jack Reed called it "a reckless overreach and an abuse of power."

Secretary of State Marco Rubio shut that down immediately by classifying the operation as "law enforcement" since Trump never recognized Maduro as a legitimate head of state.

Maduro ran a narco-terrorist organization from the presidential palace.

Trump treated him exactly like what he was.

Maduro and his wife appeared in Manhattan federal court on January 5 facing drug trafficking charges.

Both pleaded not guilty but the evidence tells a different story.
