Every election cycle some celebrity claims they will leave the country if the GOP candidate wins.
Someone finally made good on that boast.
And one Hollywood star announced they were leaving America after Trump’s win.
Ellen DeGeneres flees America
The general reaction by the public to celebrities saying they will leave the country if a Republican wins the Presidency is “good riddance.”
No one wants a malcontent around and Americans look down on entertainers who don’t appreciate the country that allowed them to obtain such wealth and fame.
Once the election is over, the talk of leaving the country dies down as it quickly becomes apparent celebrities can’t really threaten the public to vote the way they want by claiming Americans will no longer enjoy the privilege of their presence should their preferred candidate lose.
But this year brought the perfect storm.
Disgraced comedian and former daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and her wife actress Portia De Rossi – who starred in the cult classic from the early aughts Arrested Development – will sell their Los Angeles estate and leave the country for England.
DeGeneres and De Rossi will reportedly also never return to America in anger over Trump’s re-election win.
“Montecito estate on the market and plan to never return to the United States, telling friends the election of Donald Trump was their primary motivation,” the Wrap exclusively reported.
Why DeGeneres can flee America
Most celebrities quickly backtrack from their vows to flee America if the Democrat loses a Presidential race for the simple reason that they want to work and need to be near the action.
That means remaining in America.
Not so for DeGeneres.
A trailer for DeGeneres’ Netflix comedy special that debuted this summer showed DeGeneres joking that this was it for her as Hollywood already canceled her.
“I decided to take up gardening,” DeGeneres declared. “I got chickens. Let me see what else I can tell you about that’s been going on . . . Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business . . . Yeah, the ‘Be kind’ girl wasn’t kind. That was the headline.”
“Had I ended my show by saying, ‘Go f–k yourselves,’ people would have been pleasantly surprised to find out I’m kind,” DeGeneres added.
DeGeneres used her “be kind” motto to build a brand as a successor to Oprah as the premiere daytime talk show host in America.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show ran for 19 seasons until ending in 2022.
In May 2021, DeGeneres announced the upcoming season would wrap up her run.
This announcement came months after a bombshell report in Buzzfeed News that accused DeGeneres of running a toxic work environment where staffers faced racial abuse.
“BuzzFeed News spoke to one current and 10 former employees on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, all of whom asked to remain anonymous, fearing retribution from the award-winning NBC daytime talk show and others in the entertainment industry,” Buzzfeed exclusively reported.
“They said they were fired after taking medical leave or bereavement days to attend family funerals. One employee, who claims she was fed up with comments about her race, essentially walked off the job. Others said they were also instructed by their direct managers to not speak to DeGeneres if they saw her around the office,” Buzzfeed continued.
No one in show business misses DeGeneres as she hasn’t worked much since.
No one in America will miss her either.
