New Jersey Democrats Just Admitted 400 Noncitizens Voted in Their State

Jul 25, 2026

Democrats spent years calling you a conspiracy theorist for worrying about noncitizen voting.

Now a Democrat governor just admitted it happened in her state.

Harmeet Dhillon had her response ready before Sherrill finished talking.

New Jersey's "Software Error" Excuse Doesn't Hold Up

New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced Tuesday that a "software error" at the state's Motor Vehicle Commission quietly registered 6,600 noncitizens to vote between June 2023 and June 2024.

She made sure to say at least three times that this happened under her predecessor, Democrat Gov. Phil Murphy.

Then she attacked Trump.

"Let me be clear: Donald Trump has zero credibility on the issue of election integrity," Sherrill wrote on X, even as she was admitting that noncitizens voted in New Jersey elections on her party's watch.

Here's the part they're burying: those 6,600 people told the DMV they were not citizens.

They said no.

The software registered them anyway.

So this wasn't a paperwork mix-up where someone forgot to check a box.

The system looked at a person who said "I am not a citizen" and replied, "Welcome to the voter rolls."

And it did that 6,600 times over the course of a year before anyone bothered to fix it.

DOJ Didn't Wait for Apologies

Harmeet Dhillon had a letter on Sherrill's desk before the news conference ended.

The Civil Rights Division is demanding identifying information and registration details for all 6,600 people – plus the complete voting records for every one of the roughly 400 who actually cast a ballot.

Dhillon announced on X that the DOJ is investigating "this unlawful dilution of American votes" and called the situation "unacceptable and illegal."

She gave Sherrill five business days to hand over the records.

She also put New Jersey on notice that this disclosure will be used as grounds in the DOJ's pending federal lawsuit to obtain the state's entire unredacted voter roll.

New Jersey Republicans aren't waiting either.

State Sen. Mike Testa called for an immediate end to automatic voter registration at all MVC locations.

The New Jersey GOP noted they had already flagged this vulnerability weeks ago – they'd identified hundreds of noncitizens on the rolls and at least 30 illegal votes before Sherrill ever made her announcement.

This Is Exactly What Trump Said Was Happening

Trump gave a prime-time speech on election security last week.

Democrats laughed at him.

Five days later, a Democrat governor stood at a podium and confirmed noncitizens voted in her state.

This is why the SAVE America Act exists.

The House passed the bill in February 2026 on a 218-213 vote.

It requires documentary proof of citizenship – a passport, birth certificate, or qualifying state ID – before anyone can register to vote in a federal election.

Senate Democrats are blocking it.

New Jersey isn't the only state where DMV software failed.

Oregon admitted in 2024 that a software error put more than 1,600 noncitizens on their voter rolls.

California had a similar DMV registration fiasco in 2018 that put 1,500 people incorrectly on the rolls, including noncitizens.

The pattern is obvious to anyone paying attention: Democrat-run states run motor voter programs that automatically register people, the systems fail, noncitizens end up on the rolls, and then everyone acts surprised.

Sherrill closed her statement by saying she is "ensuring we protect our elections" – even as she confirmed her state couldn't tell the difference between a citizen and a noncitizen for an entire year.

Here's what nobody in the mainstream press will say out loud: this isn't a software problem.

Three Democrat-run states, three separate "software errors," same result every time.

At some point you stop calling it an accident and start calling it a feature.

Senate Democrats aren't blocking the SAVE America Act because they think the current system works.

They're blocking it because they know exactly how it works.

The DOJ knows exactly what to do next.

The question is whether Senate Democrats will keep blocking the one law that would prevent it from happening again.
