The government buried unexplained sightings in file cabinets for decades and told the public there was nothing to see.
Now NASA's own chief is pulling back the curtain – and what he's describing is more unsettling than crashed saucers.
Jared Isaacman just told Americans that some of what the government found has no explanation, and that nobody in Washington spent serious time trying to find one.
What the PURSUE Files Actually Contain
Trump's Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters – PURSUE – just dropped its second batch of declassified files, and the material is specific enough to make the skeptics uncomfortable.
The newly released records include infrared footage from 2023 showing a U.S. F-16 shooting down a diamond-shaped object over Lake Huron.
Nobody has explained what that object was.
The files also contain documented UFO encounters from military operations in Iran, Syria, Iraq, and Greece – active combat zones where pilots had more important things to do than chase weather balloons.

Then there are the Apollo and Gemini accounts.
Astronauts from America's earliest space missions described strange lights and unidentified objects in orbit, and those accounts sat buried in government files until Trump ordered agencies to start digging.
"Government agencies really didn't take this quite as seriously in the past until President Trump put out the tweet, basically giving an order to government agencies," Isaacman told Fox News Digital.
He called the result "citizen science" – a word that means something specific here.
It means the government spent fifty years treating unexplained evidence as a filing problem instead of a scientific one, and Trump is the first president to treat it any differently.
The Part That Should Keep You Up at Night
Isaacman didn't claim alien bodies or recovered spacecraft.
He said something more revealing.
"Observations from decades past – from some of our adversaries and potentially some of our allies – essentially saying, 'We saw something, we documented it, and we kept it buried in a file somewhere,' are now being made public."
Read that again slowly.
America's adversaries documented unexplained aerial encounters.
America's allies documented unexplained aerial encounters.
And the United States government filed its own encounters in the same drawer and left them there until a president with no patience for institutional secrecy ordered the vault opened.
Intelligence officers and military pilots – people trained to identify aircraft under combat conditions – told investigators they witnessed things they couldn't explain during active operations and training exercises.
Their accounts are in those files now.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth confirmed the Trump administration is directing agencies to keep revisiting long-buried UAP records, and Isaacman said additional "big file tranches" from intelligence agencies including the CIA could soon become public.
This Is What Real Transparency Looks Like
Barack Obama laughed about UFOs on late-night television.
Biden's team issued a report in 2021 that explained nothing and satisfied no one.
Trump issued an executive order and made the agencies prove they'd searched their databases.
That's the difference between presidents who treat Americans like children who can't handle the truth and one who hands them the files and says figure it out.

Isaacman put it plainly: "I think the president has really got government agencies now taking this seriously, to go look at the files and bring the data to light, and he's putting it all out for everyone to analyze."
The Apollo material creates a specific problem for a certain kind of skeptic.
"You can't be a moon landing denier and also believe that those photos captured unexplained phenomenon," Isaacman said.
The footage proving the landings were real and the footage showing objects the astronauts couldn't identify came out of the same government filing cabinet.
Washington spent fifty years deciding the public wasn't equipped to examine either one.
Trump looked at that posture and called it what it is – condescension dressed up as national security.
The CIA tranches haven't dropped yet.
Whatever the intelligence community spent decades deciding you couldn't handle, it's coming.
