The Democrat Party is in disarray.
Party leaders, strategists, and donors are in complete panic mode over Joe Biden’s viability in the 2024 race.
And now Nancy Pelosi made an ugly admission about Joe Biden’s cognitive function.
Nancy Pelosi’s eyebrow raising comments
Nancy Pelosi is walking a fine line.
Pelosi needs to show nominal loyalty to Biden while he remains in the race so as not to mortally wound his candidacy if Democrats fail in forcing him to step aside.
But Pelosi also needs to give the efforts to force Biden to drop out room to breathe so they have a chance at success.
That tension was on display during an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell.
Campaigns don’t end because the candidate runs out of things to say.
Campaigns end because candidates run out of money.
And as one of the most prodigious fundraisers in the Democrat Party, no one is more plugged into the donor community than Pelosi.
Mithcell wanted to know if the donors had any plans to cut off funds for Biden’s re-election campaign.
“What are you hearing from your large network of people about whether he is up to it?” Mitchell asked.
Pelosi revealed dissension in the ranks.
“I hear mixed. Some people are saying because Donald Trump is such an authoritarian and autocrat, we have to win this election. This is not a normal election where you want to win and if you don’t, you cooperate the best you can for the country and hope to win the next time,” Pelosi responded.
Pelosi said Democrats know their overriding goal is defeating Donald Trump, but donors are no longer sure Joe Biden is a means to that end.
“This is something that is undermining our democracy and he must be stopped. He cannot be president so therefore people are very concerned. It’s split,” Pelosi added.
Pelosi hangs Joe Biden out to dry
Pelosi didn’t offer much support to Biden and said remaining in the race was up to him.
The obvious subtext of this remark, as well as Pelosi’s boast about how “patriotic” Biden was, is that Pelosi hopes Biden comes to the proper conclusion and ends his candidacy so Democrats can go about trying to defeat Donald Trump.
“It’s going to be up to Joe Biden to do what he thinks is — there is no more patriotic person in our country than this president of the United States [and] nobody less than the former president,” Pelosi added.
Pelosi then made another comment that made everyone sit up and take notice when she said she couldn’t vouch for the idea that Joe Biden would be mentally or physically capable of serving a full second term if he wins re-election.
“I trust his judgment. I think that — again, I’m not a doctor. I can’t say what happens three, four years down the road, but I think that in my experience, which is what you asked me, I think that he will continue to be a great President of the United States,” Pelosi concluded.
