Meghan Markle’s UK Return 2026: One Security Demand Has Prince Harry’s Birmingham Plans Crumbling

Jan 21, 2026

Meghan Markle disappeared from Britain and hasn't looked back.

Now the Duchess wants something before she'll ever set foot there again.

And Meghan Markle set one impossible condition that has Prince Harry's UK plans crumbling.

Meghan Markle Security Demands: RAVEC Review Holds Key to Invictus Games Birmingham Visit

Prince Harry wants Meghan Markle by his side when he travels to Birmingham this July for the one-year countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games.

But royal experts say the Duchess of Sussex won't return to the United Kingdom unless she gets automatic armed security first.

Kinsey Schofield, host of "Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered," told Fox News that Meghan will only come back if the UK government reverses its ruling and grants her automatic protection instead of the current case-by-case system.

Under the current RAVEC protocol, Harry and Meghan have to give 30 days' notice before any UK visit so authorities can assess threat levels.

Schofield said they'd probably get armed security for an Invictus appearance under that system.

But that's not good enough for Meghan.

"However, the recent surge of headlines suggesting that Meghan will only return if RAVEC reverses its original ruling and grants automatic security appears to be an attempt to influence the committee's latest threat assessment," Schofield explained.

Harry gets armed protection during most UK visits under the current system.

The problem is he and Meghan object to requesting it case-by-case.

"They object to having to request protection on a case-by-case basis," Schofield stated. "This outcome was clearly outlined as a consequence when they chose to step back from their roles as working members of the royal family."

A review of Harry's security is currently underway.

Sources at the Home Office told the Mail on Sunday that security for Harry is "now nailed on."

Royal expert Ian Pelham Turner believes King Charles wants to unite the family while he still has the power to do it.

"I feel talks are underway to open the doors for Harry and Meghan to return to Britain as part of King Charles' legacy to unite the family while he has the power and strength to do so," Pelham Turner said.

Prince Harry Meghan Markle 2022 Platinum Jubilee Booing Incident Still Haunts UK Return Plans

The last time Meghan set foot in Britain for a public event was June 2022 for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

That's when things got ugly.

The crowd outside St. Paul's Cathedral erupted in boos when Harry and Meghan walked up the steps for the thanksgiving service.

Royal correspondent Richard Palmer noted the mixed reaction turned into clearer cheering by the time they reached the top.

But the message was sent.

Royal expert Hilary Fordwich called it a "risky move" for Meghan to return.

"She will be viewed as divisive at best," Fordwich stated. "She is smart and knows she will be entering a frightfully hostile environment."

Schofield doesn't believe Meghan will show up in Birmingham this July.

"Meghan knows she's not very popular in the U.K.," Schofield said. "She was audibly booed at one of the last times she visited. She is trying to avoid public humiliation more than anything."

Meghan typically attends Invictus countdown events with Harry.

She was there for the one-year celebrations in Germany in 2022 and Canada in 2024.

But Britain is different.

"I don't believe Meghan will travel to the U.K. for this event," Schofield added. "I don't believe she will be there."

Meghan only returned to Britain once more after the Platinum Jubilee — for Queen Elizabeth's funeral in September 2022.

Prince William King Charles Royal Family Reconciliation Unlikely Despite Meghan UK Return 2026

Even if Meghan gets her automatic security and shows up in Birmingham, she can expect the cold shoulder from the working royals.

Schofield said they'll keep their distance.

"I don't think we would see the working royals even acknowledge their presence," she said. "The Sussexes' credibility has been bruised over the last few years, and the royals want to keep their distance."

Prince William blames Meghan for turning private family tensions into a media circus, according to Fordwich.

"Prince William blames Meghan Markle for escalating their private tensions into a highly public media circus," Fordwich claimed. "He has no tolerance for reconciliation."

Harry and Meghan stepped back as senior royals in 2020 and moved to California.

Since then they've aired their grievances in their Netflix docuseries "Harry & Meghan" and Harry's tell-all memoir "Spare."

Harry told the BBC in May that he doesn't feel safe bringing his wife and children to the UK without sufficient security.

"I can't see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point," Harry said.

Sources close to Harry told People magazine that King Charles won't respond to his phone calls or letters.

The King met Harry for tea at Clarence House in September 2025 after Harry lost his security appeal in court.

That meeting marked the most positive sign for their relationship in years.

But Meghan's demand for automatic armed security could blow up any progress Harry made with his father.

Fordwich said Meghan's biggest obstacle is winning over the British public.

"I'm rather skeptical Meghan will be there," Fordwich stated. "The last time Meghan was in the U.K., she had to endure being booed as she descended the steps of St. Paul's Cathedral. Her ratings haven't improved since then. In fact, she's further plummeted in the polls. Being booed again would be frightfully damaging to her brand with huge reputational risks."

A spokesperson for Archewell told Fox News that reports about Meghan's July UK visit are "entirely speculative."

Harry has a court hearing in London on January 19 for his ongoing legal battle with Associated Newspapers.

Meghan is not expected to join him.
