McDonald’s CEO revealed his surprising menu favorite that just destroyed every analyst’s prediction

Nov 5, 2025

McDonald's CEO just admitted something that proves customers were right all along.

The corporate suits spent nine years ignoring what regular Americans wanted.

And McDonald's CEO revealed his surprising menu favorite that vindicates everyone who refused to shut up about it.

CEO's LinkedIn tournament reveals unexpected winner

McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski posted a video to LinkedIn showing what he really orders when nobody's watching.¹

The "McDonald's Menu Item Tournament" pitted the chain's biggest sellers against each other in a bracket-style competition.

Kempczinski went head-to-head picking between the Egg McMuffin, Big Mac, World Famous Fries, Filet-O-Fish, Chicken McNuggets, McCrispy chicken sandwich, McCrispy Strips, Vanilla Cone, Apple Pie, and the Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

Wall Street analysts probably had money on the Big Mac. Corporate consultants bet on the Quarter Pounder.

Wrong.

The Snack Wrap demolished every competitor and won the whole tournament.

That's the same menu item McDonald's killed in 2016 because employees complained it was "too complicated."

Translation: the corporate bean counters decided profit margins mattered more than what customers actually wanted.

For nine years, regular customers who actually spend money at McDonald's bombarded Kempczinski's inbox begging for the Snack Wrap to return.

The company ignored them.

"You've been asking for it for years and years," Kempczinski finally admitted in a TikTok video earlier this year. "You've been sending me emails, been posting on social media."²

Thousands of emails. Online petitions. Social media campaigns that wouldn't quit.

Now the CEO just confessed it's his personal favorite on the entire menu.

Turns out the customers knew what they were talking about the whole time.

Fries dominated the competition until McNuggets ended the run

The LinkedIn tournament revealed something else interesting about Kempczinski's taste.

McDonald's fries crushed three straight opponents before finally losing.

Kempczinski picked fries over the Egg McMuffin, McCrispy sandwich, and Filet-O-Fish before the run ended.

"When asked to choose between fries and Chicken McNuggets, Kempczinski called it a 'tough' decision, before opting for the McNuggets," Fox Business reported.³

The McNuggets then beat McCrispy Strips and advanced to face the Vanilla Cone.

The Vanilla Cone knocked out the Apple Pie but lost to the Quarter Pounder with Cheese.

That's when the Snack Wrap delivered the knockout blow against the Quarter Pounder to win the tournament.

"The winner is Snack Wrap!" the video declared.³

Kempczinski's choice validates what the company already discovered about bringing back discontinued favorites.

Snack Wrap return drove record sales numbers

The Snack Wrap officially returned to McDonald's menus nationwide on July 10 after the longest comeback campaign in fast food history.

McDonald's locations saw foot traffic jump by double digits each day during the first three days of the launch compared to year-to-date averages.⁴

Traffic spiked 22.3% on July 11 alone.⁴

Some locations sold over 500 Snack Wraps in a single day.

The surge in demand caused temporary lettuce shortages at stores across the country.

"After nine years of pent up demand, fans showed up in full force to celebrate the return of the Snack Wrap," McDonald's said in a statement. "We've been blown away by the response, from packed restaurants with lines out the door to nonstop social buzz."⁴

A Numerator survey found that 90% of customers who bought the Snack Wrap said they'd buy it again.⁴

Evercore ISI estimates U.S. same-store sales climbed 7% in the third quarter, a massive reversal from the 3.6% decline McDonald's reported in the first quarter.⁴

The Snack Wrap costs $2.99 and comes in two flavors — Ranch and Spicy.⁵

More than two-thirds of customers bought the Ranch version, 20% purchased Spicy, and 12% ordered both flavors.⁴

McDonald's finally listened after customers refused to give up

McDonald's yanked the Snack Wrap in 2016 because employees griped it took too long to make.

The original version required cutting chicken and juggling multiple ingredients that supposedly slowed down the assembly line.

But here's what really happened: corporate efficiency experts decided squeezing out an extra 30 seconds per order mattered more than selling something customers actually wanted to buy.

Classic management consultant thinking that misses the whole point.

Customers never stopped demanding its return.

Social media campaigns exploded. Online petitions gathered signatures. Thousands of emails flooded Kempczinski's inbox from people who just wanted their favorite menu item back.

These weren't professional activists or paid protesters. Just regular Americans who knew what they liked and weren't afraid to say it.

McDonald's finally caved and redesigned the Snack Wrap to use McCrispy Strips instead of the old chicken, making it faster to throw together.²

The company launched McCrispy Strips as a permanent menu item in May specifically to support the Snack Wrap comeback.²

Kempczinski even taste-tested both flavors on TikTok to build hype before the July launch.

"The anticipation that's been building, when you actually bit into this — Mm. Incredible," Kempczinski said after trying the Spicy version.²

He closed his eyes while eating the Ranch Snack Wrap and declared it "delightfully different on the inside."²

"The wait was 100% worth it," Kempczinski assured customers.²

The CEO's personal endorsement in the LinkedIn tournament just gave the Snack Wrap another massive boost.

When the boss of the world's largest fast food chain picks an item as his favorite, it sends a message.

Those MBA consultants who killed the Snack Wrap nine years ago? They were dead wrong.

The customers flooding email inboxes and social media for nearly a decade? They were right the entire time.

McDonald's bet on nostalgia and grassroots customer demand instead of listening to efficiency experts obsessed with profit margins.

That bet crushed it with record traffic numbers and a CEO who genuinely believes it's the best thing on the menu.

Funny how that works when companies actually listen to the people spending money instead of the overpaid consultants in corner offices.
