Trump's been whining about not winning the Nobel Peace Prize all year.
Venezuela's opposition leader just solved that problem for him in the most extraordinary way.
And Maria Corina Machado gave Trump her Nobel Prize using a 200-year-old revolutionary precedent that left jaws on the floor.
Venezuelan Opposition Leader Hands Trump The Nobel Prize Medal In Oval Office
Maria Corina Machado walked into the White House Thursday carrying something Trump's wanted since he took office: a Nobel Peace Prize medal.
The Venezuelan opposition leader won the 2025 award for promoting democratic rights in her country.
She presented the medal to Trump during their Oval Office meeting, and he accepted it.
"It was my Great Honor to meet María Corina Machado, of Venezuela, today," Trump posted on Truth Social after the meeting.
"She is a wonderful woman who has been through so much. María presented me with her Nobel Peace Prize for the work I have done. Such a wonderful gesture of mutual respect. Thank you María!"
The White House released a photo showing Trump holding a gold-framed display containing the medal.
Text on the frame read: "Presented as a personal symbol of gratitude on behalf of the Venezuelan people in recognition of President Trump's principled and decisive action to secure a free Venezuela."
Machado Called Trump "Heir Of Washington" During Historic White House Meeting
Machado told reporters she gave Trump the medal because he deserves it.
Then she dropped the historical bombshell that made the gesture even more powerful.
"Two hundred years ago, General Lafayette gave Simón Bolívar a medal with George Washington's face on it," Machado explained to reporters as she left the White House.
"Bolívar, since then, kept that medal for the rest of his life. Actually, when you see his portraits, you can see the medal there."
Lafayette, the French general who fought alongside Washington during the American Revolution, sent the medal to Bolívar in 1825 as a symbol of brotherhood between revolutionaries fighting tyranny.
The gift included a portrait of Washington, the medal with Washington's likeness, and even a lock of Washington's hair.
Bolívar treasured that medal for the rest of his life, wearing it in official portraits.
"It was given by General Lafayette as a sign of the brotherhood between the United States, people of United States, and the people of Venezuela in their fight for freedom against tyranny," Machado said.
"And 200 years in history, the people of Bolívar are giving back to the heir of Washington a medal, in this case a medal of the Nobel Peace Prize, as a recognition for his unique commitment with our freedom."
She called Trump "the heir of Washington."
Trump's Year-Long Nobel Peace Prize Campaign Finally Succeeds
Trump's obsession with winning a Nobel Prize became one of his most consistent talking points throughout 2025.
"I can't think of anybody in history that should get the Nobel Prize more than me," Trump declared at a White House meeting with oil executives.
He claimed to have ended eight wars since returning to office and called it a "big insult" to America when the Nobel Committee gave Machado the prize instead of him in October.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung slammed the Nobel Committee after Machado won, saying "The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace."
The Nobel Committee had to issue an unprecedented clarification that prizes cannot be transferred or shared — something that's never happened before in the award's 125-year history.
"A medal can change owners, but the title of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate cannot," the committee stated.
Trump even got FIFA to create a special "FIFA Peace Prize" just for him ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Now he's got the actual 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal sitting in the White House — exactly where it should have been all along.
The Lafayette-Bolívar precedent makes this more than political theater.
Machado positioned Trump as the modern Washington — the liberator who freed Venezuela from tyranny.
And she's right.
Trump ordered the operation that captured Maduro when nobody else had the guts to do it.
He ended the nightmare for millions of Venezuelans while establishment politicians sat around talking.
The Nobel Committee can say the prize isn't transferable all they want.
Trump's got the medal, and everyone knows he earned it.
