Letitia James ran for attorney general in 2018 on a single promise – to investigate Donald Trump.
Now a prosecutor inside her own office has confirmed what conservatives have known for eight years.
And Letitia James’ own prosecutor just wrote five words that could end her career.
The Email She Couldn't Delete Fast Enough
Assistant Attorney General Daniel Wiesenfeld sent an agency-wide email on Friday to more than 2,000 employees inside the New York Attorney General's office.
The message didn't last long.
James' general counsel, Kumiki Gibson, blasted a follow-up to the same 2,000 staffers calling it an "internal" matter.
Then the email disappeared from the servers entirely.
Too late.
The Albany Times-Union had already obtained a copy.

In it, Wiesenfeld named Investor Protection Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe as the supervisor who ordered him to target "Trump himself, Truth Social, Hewlett Packard… without having a credible reason for targeting the organizations and individuals."
The feds had already approved HP's $14 billion merger with Juniper Networks.
Didn't matter to James.
Target them anyway.
Wiesenfeld wrote to his colleagues directly: "If you believe Trump is using Department of Justice attorneys to prosecute his enemies and further his political interests, you should find it equally troubling that Tish is doing exactly the same thing."
“I ask that you not serve as Tish’s personal attorney by targeting her political enemies. Instead, I hope you choose to prosecute crimes and find the individuals accountable, rather than targeting individuals and then finding crimes,” he added.
He told them to prosecute actual crimes rather than pick targets first and hunt for charges second.
Within hours of sending that email, Wiesenfeld was placed on administrative leave.
James Told America Her Plan in 2018 and Nobody Stopped Her
This is not complicated.
In December 2018 – before she had even taken office – James told NBC News she would "use every area of the law to investigate President Trump and his business transactions and that of his family as well."
She called him a "con man" and a "carnival barker" on the campaign trail.
She won the election on that platform.

Then she spent years delivering on it.
Her office brought the civil fraud case that resulted in a judge ordering Trump to pay hundreds of millions in penalties.
The penalty was later thrown out as excessive on appeal.
Trump has said from the beginning that James ran for office specifically to prosecute him.
Wiesenfeld just confirmed he was right.
Ed Cox, chairman of the New York Republican Party, called it plainly: "Letitia James weaponized the attorney general's office into a political hit squad and then tried to cover up her tracks."
The Part That Should Keep Democrats Up at Night
The Wiesenfeld email accused James' office of something worse than targeting Trump.
It accused her of wasting taxpayer money doing it.
He specifically told colleagues the office was devoting "significant public taxpayer dollars to target convenient public enemies."

He also called out the office for failing to act on fraud involving nonprofit homeless shelters and antisemitic crimes near synagogues.
Real crimes.
Ignored.
Because hunting Trump was more important.
James spent eight years telling anyone who would listen that Democrats were the party of law and order and equal justice.
She weaponized a law enforcement office against a political opponent, deleted the evidence, and punished the man who told the truth.
Someone needs to explain to Letitia James that whistleblower laws apply to her too.
