Karoline Leavitt Just Revealed the Four Words Donald Trump Said That Changed Her Life

Apr 7, 2026

Karine Jean-Pierre stood at that podium for nearly three years defending a man she apparently barely got to talk to.

Now her replacement is telling audiences exactly what that looked like from the inside – and why Trump runs things completely differently.

Karoline Leavitt just revealed the exact moment Trump handed her the most visible job in America, and it happened in four words during a phone call she didn't even see coming.

What Leavitt Told 1000 Conservatives at Turning Point USA

About a week after the 2024 election, Leavitt and Trump were on a routine call – no agenda, no formality.

Then Trump dropped it.

"Oh, by the way, you know, you're going to be the White House press secretary, right?"

Leavitt's response: "Oh, okay."

That was the entire conversation.

She shared the story at a Turning Point USA event at George Washington University on April 2, joining Erika Kirk – the CEO of Turning Point USA and widow of Charlie Kirk – in front of more than 1,000 young conservatives.

"There really wasn't a process," Leavitt said.

"I thought, I hope I'll get a job. I don't know if I will."

She called it "the most anti-climactic thing ever" and described it as "true Donald Trump fashion" – no ceremony, no formal announcement, just a decision made and a sentence to deliver it.

Leavitt Says Karine Jean-Pierre Was Left in the Dark by Biden

Leavitt wasn't just telling a fun story.

She was drawing a line between two White Houses – one where the press secretary knew what was going on, and one where she was guessing.

"He just lays it on the table," Leavitt said of Trump. "There's no guessing. There's no questioning. There's no spin. It just is what it is with him."

Then she said what conservatives already suspected about Biden's operation.

"I saw my predecessor in this role have a bit of a hard time, and I think it's because she wasn't able to communicate with her boss in a very open and transparent way."

That's a clean takedown of three years of Biden press conferences.

Jean-Pierre defended Biden's mental acuity month after month from that podium – calling videos of his cognitive struggles "cheap fakes," reading answers from a binder when reporters pushed her, insisting his health was fine.

And according to Leavitt, she was doing all of that without genuine access to the man she was defending.

Biden's own former aides confirmed it after he left office.

Axios reporting from June 2025 cited more than two dozen former Biden officials who privately believed Jean-Pierre was incompetent at the podium.

Jean-Pierre herself later admitted in a memoir that the White House was "broken."

The people who saw it up close agreed.

A 28-Year-Old Who Earned It the Right Way

Leavitt didn't stumble into this job.

She ran for Congress in New Hampshire in 2022, lost a competitive race against a Democrat incumbent, then joined Trump's super PAC before Susie Wiles – now White House chief of staff – called and offered her the campaign spokesperson role.

She took it.

She returned to work within a week of giving birth to her son in July 2024, the same day Thomas Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump at Butler, Pennsylvania.

Trump noticed.

When reporters asked him in October whether Leavitt should be replaced, he shut it down immediately.

"That face … and those lips, they move like a machine gun," Trump said.

That's not just a compliment – it's a president telling you exactly how he evaluates talent: loyalty, results, and the ability to deliver his message without flinching.

The youngest press secretary in American history is also now the first to serve while pregnant – standing at that podium every day, carrying the next generation, taking questions from reporters who are still furious their preferred candidate lost.

The Left wanted a press secretary who would validate their framing.

They got Karoline Leavitt instead.
