Karoline Leavitt walked into the most dangerous night of Trump's presidency nine months pregnant – and still went to the podium two days later.
Now the baby is here, and America can't stop talking about her.
Vivi Leavitt arrived on May 1, and the story behind her birth is unlike anything Washington has ever seen.
The Night History Was Being Made Twice
History was already happening before Vivi drew her first breath.
Leavitt stood at the briefing room podium on April 24, visibly days from delivery, telling reporters outside the West Wing: "As you can see, I'm about ready to have a baby any minute."
Then came the White House Correspondents' Dinner on April 25.
Leavitt was seated at the head table with Trump, the First Lady, and JD Vance when a gunman descended ten flights of stairs at the Washington Hilton and stormed the security checkpoint outside the ballroom.

Secret Service agents swarmed the stage and rushed Leavitt – days from delivery – to a secure holding area.
The event was supposed to be her last public night before maternity leave began.
Instead, she was back at the podium two days later on April 27 – because, she said, she was honored to speak on behalf of President Trump.
"This hateful and constant and violent rhetoric directed at President Trump day after day after day for 11 years has helped to legitimize this violence," Leavitt told reporters – firing back at the Democrats and media figures she blamed for the climate that produced the attack.
She ended the briefing with a line that stopped the room: "I hope and pray that this is the last time I speak to you for some time until after my maternity leave."
Four days later, Viviana arrived.
What This Woman Actually Accomplished
Karoline Leavitt is 28 years old.
She is the youngest White House press secretary in American history – breaking the record set by Ronald Ziegler, who took the job under Nixon at 29.
She is the first press secretary to serve while pregnant.

She is the first to give birth while holding the role.
She married Nicholas Riccio in January 2025 – days before Trump's second inauguration – and has now had two children while managing the most watched podium in the world.
Her son Niko was born in July 2024, during the heat of the presidential campaign.
Vivi was born May 1, 2026, four days after Leavitt stood in front of a press corps still rattled by a gunman – and told them exactly who was responsible.
Joy Behar Said Trump Only Hires Obedient Women
Remember what Joy Behar said about Karoline Leavitt on The View in January 2025?
Behar insinuated Leavitt only got her job because "according to Donald Trump, she's a 10."
That's what passes for feminist analysis on daytime television.
Then – just a few months later – Behar went back on air and said Trump "doesn't really like strong women," that he only wants "dutiful, obedient women who compliment him."
Joy Behar said that.
About the administration that just had its press secretary deliver a nationally televised briefing two days before going into labor – after surviving an assassination attempt at a formal dinner.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio personally filled in at the podium while she was gone.
JD Vance is on deck.

The most powerful men in the American government are covering the briefing room so Karoline Leavitt can be home with Vivi.
Dutiful and obedient.
Sure, Joy.
When Leavitt first announced her pregnancy last December, she didn't hide it or apologize for it.
She thanked Trump and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for "fostering a pro-family environment in the White House" – and called motherhood "the closest thing to Heaven on Earth."
Vivi Leavitt entered the world on May 1.
History was already waiting for her.
