Democrats are giddy that Kamala Harris was swapped in for Joe Biden.
But not everyone in the party is on board the hype train.
And Kamala Harris was fuming after California Democrats made this shocking confession about her.
Democrats thought Kamala Harris was a joke
Democrats were in disarray during a nearly month-long civil war over President Joe Biden staying in the race after his disastrous late June debate.
Vice President Kamala Harris entering the race provided hope for Democrats that she could change the political dynamics of the Presidential race.
She was a walking punchline for her frequent gaffes and blood-curdling cackles during her time in the Biden administration.
Even the Left mocked her.
Comedy Central’s The Daily Show frequently roasted Harris for her jumbled word salads.
The media openly speculated about Biden replacing her for years after she became the most unpopular Vice President in modern history.
But everything changed when she became the presumptive Democrat Presidential nominee.
There’s an old saying in the NFL that the backup quarterback is the most popular guy in town.
Suddenly, Democrats and their public relations team in the media were treating Harris like she was a combination of former Presidents Barack Obama and John F. Kennedy.
But the people who know Harris best aren’t as enthusiastic about her as the rest of the party.
California Democrats have doubts about Kamala Harris
Harris rose through the ranks of California politics, starting as a district attorney in San Francisco.
She only won her first race for California Attorney General in 2010 by less than 1%, or a little over 74,000 votes.
That remains the closest Republicans have come to winning a statewide race in California since 2006.
Some California Democrats are grudgingly backing Harris as their party’s Presidential nominee.
“She’s not our best candidate, but she’s gonna be the candidate,” a California Democrat delegate told POLITICO. “There’s no point in not getting on board.”
Harris was able to bypass the voters in a Democrat Primary after she was parachuted in by the party’s elites.
And that’s a good thing according to one San Francisco Democrat.
“This is kind of an ideal situation for her,” another California Democrat said. “She got past the Primary, she has a united party, [and] she inherited a structure already built for her.”
The Democrat said that party members are trying to talk themselves out of their doubts about Harris.
“Partially we just want it to be true so badly because we really really want to beat [Trump],” the Democrat added. “And we do love her as a person and what she believes.”
The doubts are there from the Democrats who watched her political career take off in San Francisco.
“One Bay Area veteran Democrat said the recent days have been filled with conversations with other political insiders asking, ‘Do we know too much?’ about her over-cautious instincts, periodic word salads on the stump, and persistent staff upheavals,” POLITICO reported.
Kamala Harris may be the greatest thing since sliced bread to Democrats now that she’s running against former President Donald Trump.
But she’s still the same candidate who Democrats had a deep skepticism about until Biden dropped out of the race.
