MSNBC fired Joy Reid last year because nobody was watching her.
Now she's on YouTube – and a doctor just told her that a cage fighter's one-liner is causing heart disease.
Here's what actually happened.
The Segment That Left America Speechless
At Trump's UFC Freedom 250 birthday event on the White House lawn June 14th, heavyweight fighter Josh Hokit won his bout with Derrick Lewis, approached Trump's seat to hand him a gold chain, then grabbed the mic and declared: "Michelle Obama is a man! Am I right, America?"
The crowd booed and cheered in equal measure.
Dana White – UFC's own president – immediately said he's "completely against saying nasty and false things about people's families" and that he hates "that kind of nonsense."
That should have been the end of it.
Instead, Joy Reid booked a nephrologist.
Dr. Frita Fisher, a quadruple-board-certified kidney doctor and former Fox News medical commentator, joined Reid's YouTube channel Friday to connect a post-fight taunt to population-level cardiovascular death rates.
"I felt my heart having palpitations. I felt my chest tighten," Fisher told Reid about watching the Hokit clip.

She then pivoted from her own physical reaction directly to population data: "We literally have data that systemic racism, chronic discrimination, and also public humiliation, we have data that these things increase cardiovascular negative outcomes."
The leap – from one fighter's words to strokes and heart disease across an entire demographic – happened in a single breath.
What a Doctor Just Claimed on YouTube
The American Heart Association studies chronic stress built up across years – sustained high blood pressure, decades of cortisol elevation, diet, obesity, reduced healthcare access.
None of those studies are about post-fight taunts.
Fisher's argument is that Hokit's comment triggered a cortisol spike – and that cortisol spike is the biological bridge between a microphone moment and damaged hearts.
A kidney doctor went on a canceled cable anchor's YouTube channel and argued that a UFC heavyweight is why black women are having strokes.
That is the argument.

It isn't dressed up in nuance.
It isn't hedged with academic caution.
It's a medical credential being handed to Joy Reid as a cudgel against a fighter most Americans hadn't heard of two weeks ago.
Joy Reid's New Audience Is a Lot Smaller Than the Last One
MSNBC fired Reid in February 2025 – part of a network-wide collapse that saw the channel lose nearly half its key demo viewers in a single year.
The audience that watched her torch conservatives every night for five years is gone.
What filled the void was Friday's segment – and a theory that a UFC punchline is why black women are having strokes.
Reid and Fisher also went after Black ESPN commentators – specifically Stephen A. Smith – for daring to appreciate the UFC event at all.
"You're looking at the people who are supposed to support us – people within our community – black men who unfortunately sometimes seem to care more about power and money," Fisher said.
Stephen A. Smith had already condemned Hokit's comment directly, calling it "a disgusting thing to say" and "inexcusable."

That wasn't enough for Reid's show.
He attended the wrong event, and apparently that makes him complicit in cardiovascular disease.
The Left Has Finally Found Its Perfect Enemy
Hokit is 28 years old, undefeated, and gave Trump a gold chain at the White House.
The left needed him to be more than a fighter with a bad joke.
They needed him to be a symptom – of Trump, of UFC, of men who vote Republican, of everything they've spent a decade warning you about.
So now he's a public health threat.
Joy Reid lost her show because Americans stopped watching.
She hasn't changed what she's selling.
She's just doing it on a smaller screen.
