The View has spent five years telling you America was over.
Now they can't even agree on whether they've lost.
Joy Behar just declared the country gone – and her own co-host told her she was wrong.
Behar Declares America a Cesspool
Tuesday's episode of The View turned into something beautiful – two liberals publicly contradicting each other about whether their movement is dead.
It started with Whoopi Goldberg fuming over Trump's White House renovation plans.
She wanted to know why taxpayers should pay for a ballroom, a grand arch, and a refurbished reflecting pool.
"Where the hell is the government?" Whoopi demanded.

Joy Behar had an answer.
"He is the government," Behar said. "It's the Donald Trump government. I mean, it's a cesspool with no bottom."
She kept going.
Behar told viewers that Republicans are the only ones who can stop Trump, that Democrats have no power in Congress, that a politician she had dinner with confirmed it – and that America is being lost in real time.
"We're losing the country now," Behar said.
Whoopi Said She Was Wrong
Whoopi Goldberg didn't take that sitting down.
"We're not losing the country," Goldberg fired back. "It's a big crappy battle for it, but it's a big battle. We have not lost."

So in one segment, on one show, in front of millions of viewers, The View declared America a bottomless cesspool and then immediately insisted everything was fine.
That's not a message.
That's a panic attack.
What Behar Is Really Saying About You
Here's what gets buried in the cable news coverage of this clip.
Joy Behar isn't talking about Donald Trump when she says "cesspool."
She's talking about 77 million voters.
You voted for this. Your neighbors voted for this.
The people you go to church with voted for this.
Behar looked at that and called it a cesspool with no bottom – on national television, in the middle of the day, to an audience she assumes agrees with her, because in her world nobody who watches The View actually voted for Trump.

That's the contempt that drives this show.
The Ratings Already Delivered the Verdict
The show that built its brand on speaking truth to power keeps losing the people it claims to speak for.
And instead of asking why, Joy Behar goes on television and calls the country a cesspool.
Whoopi at least understands the problem – "we have not lost" is the first thing a View host has said in years that sounds like someone who wants to actually win something.
But Behar can't help herself.
The contempt is the point.
The contempt is the product.
And 77 million Americans just told her exactly what they think of it.
