John Fetterman Told Larry David to Get Over Himself After He Called the White House UFC Fight a Travesty

Jun 29, 2026

Larry David once wrote a piece in the New York Times calling a dinner with Trump "My Dinner with Adolf."

Now he's shocked – shocked – that America's birthday party wasn't classy enough for him.

And the Democrat who told him to get over himself wasn't a Republican – it was John Fetterman.

A Hollywood Millionaire Who Hates What You Love

Larry David didn't just dislike the UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House South Lawn.

He called it a travesty at the Hollywood premiere of his new HBO show – a show produced by Barack Obama's company Higher Ground.

"It was embarrassing," David told Variety. "I was embarrassed to be an American."

Think about that for a second.

Twelve hundred active-duty service members were on that South Lawn.

The Marine Band played the national anthem.

The Navy's Blue Angels flew over.

And a millionaire from Brooklyn watching from a premiere party said he was embarrassed.

Fetterman Did What Democrats Won't

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) heard David's comments and responded the way most Americans wish someone in Washington would.

"I'd say lighten up, Francis," Fetterman told TMZ DC on Capitol Hill – pulling the line from the 1981 film Stripes, where Sgt. Hulka shuts down a soldier who has made everyone's patience his personal enemy.

The parallel wasn't subtle.

It wasn't meant to be.

"Hey, I'm proud to be an American," Fetterman said. "And if you are embarrassed or whatever because of a UFC thing, get over yourself, dude!"

This is what Fetterman does that drives his fellow Democrats crazy.

He says the obvious thing.

He treats the Larry Davids of the world the same way your uncle would at Thanksgiving – with zero patience and no diplomatic hedging.

It's why Fetterman broke with Democrats on Iran strikes, called out his own party for "TDS," and cast the deciding vote to advance Trump's Homeland Security nominee over the objections of every Democrat on the committee.

He understands something most Senate Democrats don't: regular Americans actually liked UFC Freedom 250.

What the Left Missed About That Night

Democrats called it tone-deaf.

A senator from New Jersey called it "corruption on full display."

But 85,000 Americans showed up at the Ellipse to watch on giant screens.

Fighters thanked Trump for having the courage to put on the event.

The crowd broke into "U-S-A!" chants throughout the night.

Trump walked out of the Oval Office alongside Dana White, and the crowd went crazy.

David was at a Hollywood premiere that same night, promoting a show he made with the Obamas, telling a reporter he was ashamed of his country.

That contrast tells you everything.

The Real Embarrassment Here

This is the same man who wrote a New York Times piece comparing Bill Maher's dinner with Trump to a meal with Hitler.

He called it "My Dinner with Adolf."

That's not political commentary.

That's someone who has decided that anyone who doesn't share his politics is a Nazi – and he's been dining out on that outrage for a decade.

He called Trump a "sociopath" and a "sick man" on CNN.

He mocked Trump's mugshot on Curb Your Enthusiasm.

He built his entire second act around hating the guy half the country voted for.

And now he's producing a show with Barack Obama's company – the former president who spent eight years doing nothing about the border, fentanyl, or Iran – and calling the people who celebrate America's 250th birthday embarrassing.

The guy who greenlit that show is the same guy Democrats tell you is the model for how America should be run.

Fetterman sees it.

He warned his own party this spring that Democrats are becoming "increasingly anti-American" – and the base wants more of it, not less.

John Fetterman isn't going to win any awards from the Democrat caucus.

He doesn't eat lunch with them.

He wears shorts on the Senate floor.

He votes with Trump when Trump is right.

And when a Brooklyn millionaire says he's embarrassed to be an American because the president threw a birthday party with military flyovers and 85,000 fans – Fetterman says get over yourself.

That's not a politician talking.

That's just a guy from Pennsylvania with better instincts than the entire party he belongs to.
