John Cleese Warned Britain About Something and Now the Left Wishes He Would Go Back to Making Monty Python

Mar 21, 2026

The man who made Monty Python's Life of Brian just defended Christian civilization.

The British Left – the crowd that cheered every joke he ever made at Christianity's expense – has gone completely silent.

And now they have to decide whether to cancel the man they built into a national treasure.

John Cleese Posted Eleven Words and Labour Has No Answer

John Cleese posted something on X this week that the Labour government, the BBC, and every woke commentator in Britain wishes he hadn't.

"The UK has always been based at the deepest level on Christian values, regardless of dogma," Cleese wrote.

"If these values are replaced by Islamic ones, this will not be Britain any more."

Eleven words that every honest person in Britain knows is true – and that the ruling class has spent a decade trying to make unsayable.

Cleese wasn't done.

He's been posting for months about grooming gangs, about the Muslim Council of Britain trying to shut down the independent inquiry into child sex abuse, about the BBC's shameful silence on Iran's massacre of its own people.

He called himself an "Islamosceptic."

He asked whether that made him a terrorist under Britain's new rules.

He wasn't joking.

Keir Starmer Quietly Brought Back Blasphemy Laws and Called It Social Cohesion

Here's what makes this moment bigger than one celebrity's X feed.

The same week Cleese posted his warning, Britain's Labour government quietly adopted an official definition of "anti-Muslim hostility."

No parliamentary vote.

No debate.

Just Communities Secretary Steve Reed announcing it – and every government department, police force, school, and NHS employer expected to fall in line.

The Free Speech Union immediately called it what it is: a blasphemy law by the back door.

They're right.

Britain abolished blasphemy laws in 2008.

Keir Starmer's government just brought them back – for one religion only.

The definition uses language vague enough to weaponize against anyone.

"Prejudicial stereotyping of Muslims" – a phrase with no legal definition – could now get you disciplined at work, flagged by police, or reported by your children's school.

And it gets worse.

Labour councils in northern England are already warning teachers that children's drawings could be blasphemous under Islamic law – and that music and dance lessons could violate Islamic teachings.

Britain's own government terror adviser, Jonathan Hall, warned the definition could stifle debate and hand Islamist groups a tool to silence critics.

His own government won't listen.

UK Census Data Shows What Cleese Sees and the Government Won't Say

The British establishment didn't stumble into this.

It's been happening for decades.

In 2001, Muslims made up 3% of England and Wales.

By 2021, that number had doubled to 6%.

Among Britain's children – the next generation – 10% now identify as Muslim, while only 36% are raised Christian.

Over the same period, Christianity fell from 72% of the British population in 2001 to under 47% in 2021.

Three thousand five hundred churches have closed since 2013.

While churches close, mosques open.

While the Church of England struggles to fill pews, Islam is growing – driven by immigration, higher birth rates, and a faith community that actually believes what it preaches.

None of this happened by accident.

It happened because a generation of British politicians decided that the people who built Britain had no right to say what Britain should remain.

Cleese watched all of it happen.

He watched the BBC go silent on Iran's slaughter of dissidents because it didn't want to offend Islamists.

He watched the grooming gang scandal – tens of thousands of children abused, mostly by Pakistani Muslim men, while police and councils looked away because they were afraid of being called racist.

He watched Britain's government respond not by holding anyone accountable, but by building a legal framework to silence people who bring it up.

And then he picked up his phone and told the truth.

The Monty Python Star They Cannot Cancel and the Government That Proves His Point

Here's what the left can't figure out about John Cleese.

He made The Life of Brian – 86 minutes of mocking organized religion, Christianity included.

The BBC refused to air it.

Councils banned it.

Mary Whitehouse picketed it.

Cleese survived all of them.

Now he's doing to Islam what he did to Christianity – treating it like any other set of ideas that can be questioned, mocked, and debated.

And the same people who cheered The Life of Brian want him canceled for it.

That tells you everything.

Because Keir Starmer's government just did in one week what no honest person can ignore.

They introduced a definition of "anti-Muslim hostility" with no vote, no debate, and no mandate – the same week a child rape inquiry was getting stonewalled.

They told northern England teachers to warn children that drawing Jesus could be blasphemous.

They appointed an "anti-Muslim hostility tsar" whose job is to find offenses that aren't even crimes.

And then they called it social cohesion.

Britain has around 4,000 recorded anti-Muslim hate crimes per year.

Their new definition is projected to generate 20,000 complaints annually.

Do the math on who's generating the other 16,000.

Cleese called himself an Islamosceptic and asked if that made him a terrorist.

Under what Starmer is building – it might.
