Jimmy Kimmel spent Tuesday night mocking Trump for skipping Don Jr.’s wedding.
The man who dragged his kids to No Kings rallies apparently sees no irony in that.
But Kimmel left out one detail – and it's the detail that blows up his entire bit.
Trump Told the Country Exactly Why He Stayed Home
Before a single punchline landed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Trump had already put his explanation on the record.
He posted it on Truth Social on Friday, May 22.
"While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so," Trump wrote.
That's the statement Kimmel decided to mock.
Here's what was actually happening at the time.
Trump was managing an active war with Iran – one where he had just paused strikes and was actively weighing whether to resume them, with the Strait of Hormuz still partly closed and roughly a fifth of the world's oil supply hanging in the balance.

He canceled a planned stay at his Bedminster golf club to return to Washington.
He convened a full Cabinet meeting to weigh the Iran situation in real time.
According to Axios, Trump had become deeply frustrated with the state of negotiations over the previous several days and was deciding whether to order a full-scale assault.
Kimmel's take: Trump golfs two or three times a week and goes to UFC fights with Vanilla Ice, so the "staying in Washington for America" explanation is a joke.
The President was running a wartime Cabinet meeting.
Kimmel was timing punchlines.
Kimmel Has Been Playing This Game for Years
This isn't a bit.
Kimmel attended at least two No Kings rallies during Trump's second term – including one in Torrance, California, where he posed for photos with Senator Chris Murphy two days after Murphy's party helped slow TSA to a crawl during their DHS showdown.
He brought his children to hold anti-Trump signs.
He mocked Melania Trump so viciously at the Oscars in March that the First Lady went on X and called him out by name.
"Kimmel's hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country," Melania wrote. "A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him."

ABC kept him on the air.
Now he's taking shots at a president who skipped a ceremony of under 50 guests on a private island in the Bahamas to manage a war.
And here's the part Kimmel definitely didn't mention.
Bettina Anderson had originally wanted a White House wedding.
The groom and the President decided it was inappropriate while US and Israeli forces were actively striking Iran.
So the couple held an intimate island ceremony instead – and a White House celebration with Trump and Melania is still planned.
There is no family drama here.
Kimmel built a monologue around a story that doesn't exist.
The Tell Is What He Left Out
Here's how you know Kimmel knows exactly what he's doing.
Trump's Truth Social post about the wedding wasn't cold.

It was warm, personal, and specific – "Congratulations to Don and Bettina!" from a father who said he very much wanted to be there.
Kimmel read it aloud on national television and called Trump cold anyway.
He knows about the Cabinet meeting.
He knows Bettina originally wanted a White House wedding and didn't get one because of the war.
None of that made the monologue – because none of it serves the laugh track.
That's what ABC pays him to deliver every night: applause from a room full of people who already agree with him, built on facts carefully selected to leave out anything inconvenient.
It's not commentary.
It's a man in a sport coat doing opposition research with the volume turned up.
