Jesse Watters Just Told The Five What Everyone Already Thinks About Gavin Newsom in 2028

Apr 6, 2026

Gavin Newsom told a black audience in Atlanta he was just like them because he got a 960 on his SATs.

Now he wants to be president – and Jesse Watters has a theory about what kind.

Watters told The Five this week that Newsom could make history as the first woman to hold the Oval Office.

What Jesse Watters Said About Gavin Newsom on The Five

It started with a clip of Nancy Pelosi admitting she might not live to see a female president.

Watters responded on air: he hoped she was right.

Then he pivoted to Gavin Newsom.

"I believe Gavin Newsom could be the first woman president," Watters said. "Because when I hear him talk, he sounds like a woman."

He wasn't done.

"The kind of emotional instability – you don't know whether he's having a mid-life crisis, an identity crisis, a crisis of confidence."

Watters said Newsom had real potential – the athleticism, the hair, the genuinely nice personality.

His prescription for the governor was blunt.

"The only reason he is running for president is to prove his worth to his father and to get back at all the bullies who beat the crap out of him in middle school," Watters said. "Don't run for president. Run to see a psychiatrist instead."

Co-host Greg Gutfeld told Watters he was "jumping off a cliff."

Watters didn't slow down.

Why Gavin Newsom Polling Numbers Make Watters Look Right

Democrats spent two elections telling America a woman couldn't win.

Hillary Clinton lost.

Kamala Harris lost.

Now the party is openly debating whether they need – in the words of their own strategists – a "straight, white, Christian man" to have any shot in 2028.

Their answer appears to be Gavin Newsom.

The same Gavin Newsom who told that same Atlanta crowd he "cannot read a speech" because he still hasn't overcome his dyslexia.

The same Gavin Newsom whose favorability rating sits at 27 percent nationally – with 45 percent of voters viewing him unfavorably.

The same Gavin Newsom who presided over the Los Angeles wildfires that killed at least 31 people and destroyed nearly 16,000 homes.

Only 52 percent of Democrats view him favorably – a staggering number for someone positioning himself as the party's savior.

A recent Saint Anselm College poll conducted in March 2026 found Newsom had actually lost ground in New Hampshire since the fall, with Pete Buttigieg pulling ahead.

Gavin Newsom 2028 Presidential Odds Have Been Collapsing

Newsom published a memoir called Young Man in a Hurry and launched a national book tour that looked exactly like a presidential campaign.

He started publicly taunting Trump on social media.

His betting odds surged to 37 percent in November – then collapsed to 28 percent by February as voters got a better look at him.

A Decision Desk HQ poll put his unfavorable rating at nearly 42 percent against just 30 percent favorable.

Then came the SAT disaster.

Then came the wildfire disaster.

Then came Jesse Watters burning him on national television in front of millions of viewers.

The Democrats wanted a fighter.

What they got is a 960 SAT guy who can't read a speech, oversaw the destruction of America's second-largest city, and is now the nightly punchline on the most-watched cable news program in the country.

JD Vance is waiting for him on the other side of that primary.
