Jeff Bezos Said Something on CNBC That Has Democrats Calling Him a Traitor

May 26, 2026

The Washington Post spent years running hit piece after hit piece on Donald Trump.

Now the man who owns it just called Trump right about a lot of things.

What Bezos said next on live television is the kind of admission his own former newsroom will never recover from.

The Quote Democrats Are Trying to Forget

Jeff Bezos sat down with CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin Wednesday morning and said something you almost never hear from a billionaire in his zip code.

"Trump has lots of good ideas, and he's been right about a lot of things," Bezos said. "You have to give him credit where credit is due."

He wasn't finished.

"I think he is a more mature, more disciplined version of himself than he was in his first term," Bezos added.

That's the owner of the Washington Post – the same paper that ran hundreds of anti-Trump stories, that endorsed Kamala Harris, that drove away hundreds of thousands of subscribers when Bezos blocked that endorsement months before Election Day.

The same man who let his paper call Trump an existential threat to democracy for eight straight years just told Sorkin on national television that he's impressed.

They called you a fool for believing in Trump.

Now the man who bankrolled the paper that said so just admitted he was wrong.

What Changed and Why It Matters

Bezos didn't arrive at this moment accidentally.

He made his first public move in December 2024, flying to Mar-a-Lago for dinner with Trump and Elon Musk three weeks before Inauguration Day.

He blocked the Post's presidential endorsement months before the election, telling readers the paper would no longer take sides.

He replaced longtime editor Sally Buzbee and directed the newsroom toward what he called fierce independence.

Then in February 2026, he gutted the place – the paper cut between 350 and 375 journalists in a single morning, nearly half the entire newsroom, wiping out the sports section, the books section, the flagship podcast, and most of the foreign bureaus.

The reporters who spent years telling America that Trump was dangerous to democracy found out via email that their jobs were gone.

On Wednesday, Bezos explained his thinking directly to Sorkin.

"I've worked with all the presidents, I will work with all the presidents, and I hope to do that going forward, if they'll have me," he said. "We need our business leaders to provide input into the administration, regardless of who the president is. I'm on the side of America."

That's not hedging.

That's a man who has done the math.

The AI Prediction That Should Scare Every Democrat

Bezos spent the second half of the interview talking about artificial intelligence – and what he said should terrify every Democrat who spent the last four years telling workers AI would destroy their jobs.

The shovel-to-bulldozer comparison was vivid.

"You've been digging out a basement for your house with a shovel, and somebody is about to hand you a bulldozer," Bezos said. "You should be so happy."

He predicted that AI-driven productivity would lift American household income so significantly that dual-income families would choose to become single-income households again – a return to a family structure Democrats spent a generation calling impossible.

"Because of the productivity gains, you're going to be able to afford things," Bezos said. "I predict we'll actually have deflation – assuming we let this technology play out and don't hamstring it with regulation too early."

That last sentence is a direct shot at the progressive politicians who spent four years trying to regulate AI into submission before it could scale.

He said it on the same network that told its audience for years that Trump was the threat.

Follow the Money

Here is what the media won't tell you about why Bezos is standing in front of cameras praising Donald Trump.

Blue Origin – Bezos's space company – received a $2.3 billion contract from the U.S. Space Force in April 2025.

Amazon is embedded throughout the federal government's cloud infrastructure.

Bezos sat in the front row at Trump's inauguration.

This is a man with billions of dollars in federal contracts who needs the Trump administration to keep saying yes.

The Washington Post was never just a newspaper to Bezos.

It was a liability – a daily machine for generating friction with the most powerful man in Washington.

He didn't fire half the newsroom because he had a change of heart about journalism.

He fired them because the product was costing him money in ways that never showed up on the balance sheet.

The reporters who called you gullible for four straight years just lost their jobs.

The man who signed their checks just proved you right.
