Some comebacks are worth celebrating.
Others remind you why certain things never should have left in the first place.
And Jeep just delivered the kind of comeback that had thousands of car enthusiasts in Brooklyn cheering like they’d won the lottery.
The Cherokee rises from the ashes in spectacular fashion
The all-new 2026 Jeep Cherokee made its grand return yesterday in Brooklyn’s Domino Park, and the automaker pulled out every stop to make sure people understood this wasn’t just another product launch.¹
This was a celebration of 50 years of American automotive heritage.
LL COOL J took the stage to perform for the crowd, and his classic lyrics "Don’t Call it a Comeback" from "Mama Said Knock You Out" became the centerpiece of Jeep’s new "America’s Original Influencer" campaign.²
The rapper didn’t just show up for a paycheck either.
"I’ve been driving Jeep 4x4s for years – IYKYK," LL COOL J said. "We go way back, so it’s an honor to be part of the iconic Jeep Cherokee’s return. Our bond is built on mutual respect: style, originality and always striving for the top. Not just for ourselves, but for everyone who chooses to ride with us on this journey."³
The event was streamed live in Times Square and broadcast on SiriusXM, turning what could have been a typical car reveal into a cultural moment.
Jeep created a time machine in Brooklyn
Here’s where Jeep showed they understand their audience better than most corporations understand theirs.
Instead of some sterile corporate event in a convention center, they transformed Domino Square into what they called "Jeep 4×4 City Camp" – an interactive experience that took visitors through different eras of the Cherokee’s history.⁴
The experience included themed areas representing different decades of Cherokee history – from ’70s outdoor adventures to ’80s automotive culture to ’90s technology nostalgia and 2000s road trip memories.
Each themed area showcased the Cherokee model from that era.
It was nostalgia marketing done right – not just selling a car, but celebrating the memories and adventures that car made possible for American families.
The event ran through Saturday, complete with lawn games, food trucks, and live music sets.
"New York, with all its grit and influence, made it the perfect place to launch the all-new 2026 Jeep Cherokee in front of so many Jeep fans and alongside the original influencer himself, LL COOL J," said Bob Broderdorf, Jeep CEO. "Not only is the northeast a massive market for midsize SUVs, but more importantly it’s been the backdrop for so many Jeep Cherokee memories for families through the generations. We’re proud the all-new Jeep Cherokee hybrid, with its best-in-class capability, more cargo room and over 500 miles of adventure on a single tank, will continue driving that legacy forward for the next generation."⁵
What this comeback really means
Look, automotive comebacks are tricky business.
Bring back a beloved nameplate and do it wrong, you’ll have angry customers reminding you for years about how you ruined their childhood memories.
But Jeep seems to understand what made the Cherokee special in the first place – it was America’s adventure vehicle for families who wanted to explore beyond the suburbs.
The new Cherokee comes with hybrid technology that delivers over 500 miles of range on a single tank, best-in-class capability, and more cargo room than before.⁶
That’s not just keeping up with the times – that’s actually improving on what made the original Cherokee a hit.
And you know what? This whole approach shows something important about connecting with American consumers.
While other brands chase after the latest trends or try to lecture customers about their values, Jeep went back to basics: heritage, capability, and the promise of adventure.
LL COOL J’s involvement wasn’t some desperate attempt to seem cool – it was a partnership between two American originals who’ve both stood the test of time.
The timing couldn’t be better either.
American families are hungry for brands that celebrate this country’s heritage instead of apologizing for it.
Jeep’s message is simple: we’ve been helping Americans explore this beautiful country for 50 years, and we’re just getting started.
That’s the kind of comeback story that deserves to succeed.
