JD Vance Named the Four Republicans Blocking the SAVE America Act

Oct 3, 2026

Democrats haven't won a single vote on election integrity in two years.

Now Vance just revealed why the SAVE America Act keeps dying – and it has nothing to do with Democrats.

JD Vance and Donald Trump have wargamed every scenario to pass voter ID – and the names he dropped will make your blood boil.

The Traitors Are Inside the Building

Vance was direct in his Tuesday interview with Vince Coglianese.

He confirmed that he has the authority to take the Senate chair, fire the parliamentarian, and ram the SAVE America Act through with 51 votes.

He just can't get to 51.

The reason isn't Chuck Schumer.

The reason isn't procedural tricks or Democrat filibusters.

The reason is four Republicans who vote more reliably with Democrats than with their own party.

Vance named them: Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, John Cornyn of Texas, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska.

"We have wargamed this to every detail," Vance said, "and I wanted to do this a few months ago, and we ultimately decided it doesn't make sense because it's not going to go anywhere."

These four senators already proved it.

In June, when Sen. Lindsey Graham tried to attach the SAVE America Act to a budget reconciliation package, McConnell, Tillis, and Murkowski voted against it – handing Democrats the victory they needed without having to lift a finger.

What Democrats Are Desperate to Stop

They don't want you to show ID to vote.

They don't want you to prove you're a citizen before registering.

And they definitely don't want to restrict the mail-in ballot system that nobody can audit and everybody knows gets abused.

The SAVE America Act does all three – and over 70 percent of Americans support it.

That's not a partisan number.

That's the country.

The House passed it in February 218-213.

The Senate has blocked it every time it's come to the floor in 2026, then gone on recess while Trump waited.

Sen. Mike Lee said the chamber had already taken more recess weeks than he could count – all while promising they'd get to the SAVE America Act "when there's time."

Trump Is Done Waiting

Vance made clear Tuesday that he and Trump have thought through this "obsessively."

The scenario everyone keeps pushing – fire the parliamentarian, change the rules, pass the bill – runs into the same wall every time.

Firing the parliamentarian isn't unprecedented.

Trent Lott fired parliamentarian Robert Dove in 2001 after Dove repeatedly blocked Republican spending measures.

The vice president has the authority to overrule the parliamentarian's rulings directly from the chair.

Vance knows it.

Trump knows it.

The problem is that four or five Republicans would immediately vote with Democrats to overrule whoever Vance puts in the chair.

"The problem is not who's in the chair," Vance said. "The problem is four or five Republicans who are going to stand with the Democrats."

That's the whole game.

Cornyn reversed his long-standing support for the filibuster earlier this year when he was fighting a primary runoff against Ken Paxton – suddenly declaring that Democrats had dealt the filibuster "a fatal blow."

Then the pressure from his primary eased, and he landed on Vance's list of senators blocking the path forward.

The pattern is not subtle.

The Senate Gets a Primary Warning

Vance closed the interview with a message that should focus every Republican senator's attention before the next election cycle.

"We're interested in winning the battle," he said, "and that means replacing mediocre Republican senators with good Republican senators."

That's not a threat buried in diplomatic language.

That's Trump and Vance telling four named senators that primaries are coming.

McConnell is already not running again.

Tillis is retiring.

Murkowski and Cornyn will face voters – and now they face an administration that has explicitly identified them as the reason the SAVE America Act has failed.

The administration's message is now in writing – either get right or get replaced.
