Austin Metcalf's father stood in a Collin County courtroom Tuesday and told his son's killer that grief isn't sadness – it's pure, unfiltered rage.
The next day, a sitting member of Congress went on her podcast to explain why the knife that killed Austin wasn't really a deadly weapon.
Jasmine Crockett put her thumb and forefinger an inch apart on camera to show you what she thinks ended that boy's life.

On Tuesday, a Collin County jury convicted Anthony of first-degree murder and sentenced him to 35 years in prison – finding he "knowingly" caused that death.
Crockett went live that same night.
"Wait a minute, it was this?" she said, pinching her fingers together on camera.
One of her podcast guests claimed the knife was a "multi-tool" Swiss Army-style weapon – the kind with little scissors and a bottle opener.
"Yeah, like with the little scissors and everything and whatever. So it was small," Crockett said.
"Well I would argue the size of it alone you wouldn't even think it's a deadly weapon," she continued.
The jury who spent a week hearing testimony didn't agree.
Crockett Then Told the Metcalfs Their Grief Doesn't Measure Up
Crockett wasn't finished.
She turned from the knife to the family – and told a mother who just watched a jury convict her son's killer that she can't understand real suffering.
"Black women – especially black women who have black male children – live in fear and agony every single day," Crockett said. "A fear and agony that I promise you the Metcalfs probably never spent a day living that way."

Jeff Metcalf buried his 17-year-old son, sat through a week of testimony including photographs of Austin's destroyed heart, and stood before the man who did it to tell him that grief is rage.
Crockett's message to him: that still doesn't count.
She also said during the stream that she personally "wouldn't be limited to fists" if she had been in Anthony's position – suggesting she understood why he reached for the knife.
Witnesses testified Anthony dared Metcalf to "touch me," reached inside his bag to signal he was armed, and told him "you're going to have to move me."
Metcalf shoved him.
Anthony pulled the knife that Crockett says wasn't dangerous and drove it through Austin Metcalf's chest.

Crockett lost her Senate primary in March and is on her way out of Congress.
This is what she chose to do with the time she has left – put two fingers together to mock the size of a murder weapon and tell a grieving family their pain doesn't compare to hers.

Their own strategists have spent months demanding the party get serious on public safety or face another wipeout – and some Democrat candidates are already running on tough-on-crime platforms to distance themselves from exactly this kind of comment.
Crockett's response to a first-degree murder conviction was to spend two hours arguing the knife wasn't deadly, the victim provoked it, and the real victims are black women – not the white teenager stabbed through the heart in front of witnesses at a high school track meet.
She sits on the House Oversight Committee.
She has been one of the loudest voices in the House Democrat caucus for two years.
And when a jury handed down a murder conviction for a case the entire country was watching, her instinct was to go on camera and tell you the knife wasn't big enough to matter.
