Democrats have been promising Texas is about to flip since 2018 – and losing every single time.
Now their own star congresswoman just said the quiet part out loud on national television.
Jasmine Crockett went on NBC News and handed Ken Paxton the best ad he'll run all fall.
What She Actually Said
Crockett lost to James Talarico in the Democratic primary back in March – 52.4% to 46.2%.
She wasn't happy about it then.
She's still not happy about it now.
When NBC asked if Talarico can turn Texas blue this November, she said: "I don't know."
She didn't say "absolutely."
She didn't say "James has what it takes."
She said "I don't know" – on camera, to a national news outlet, five months before Election Day.

Then she explained her logic: she's watching where the money goes.
"When I look at the money, if Republicans start spending money in Texas, then I'll be convinced," Crockett said.
She noted that the NRSC isn't dumping cash into Texas.
She noted the DSCC isn't either.
Her conclusion: "It looks like status quo."
What Status Quo Actually Means
Democrats haven't won a Senate race in Texas since Lloyd Bentsen in 1988.
They haven't won a single statewide office since 1994.
Beto O'Rourke came closer than anyone in a generation – raised $80 million, got wall-to-wall national coverage, ran the most celebrated Democrat campaign in Texas history – and still lost by nearly three points.
Colin Allred ran against Ted Cruz in 2024 with similar hype and lost by double digits.
Every cycle, national Democrats convince themselves this is finally the year.
Every cycle, Texas Republicans win.
The grassroots donate.
The consultants get paid.

The candidate gives a passionate concession speech.
And then everybody goes home and pretends next time will be different.
Crockett just told you it won't be different this time either.
She Won't Even Commit to Campaigning for Him
That's not the only thing she said.
Crockett refused Talarico's invitation to speak at the Texas Democrat Party convention this summer.
She told the Dallas Morning News she didn't even listen to his voicemail – dismissing it as an "afterthought invite."
When asked if she'll stump for him before November, she said she won't make that call until late September or October.
"I won't get on the ground to really start to feel it until maybe end of September, October," she said.
October.
That's four weeks before Election Day.
For context: Talarico went to a Houston town hall and publicly defended Crockett against his own supporters who were criticizing her.
He asked them to stop.
She responded by teasing a "surprising endorsement" on social media.
That's Democrat unity in Texas, three months out.
The Consultants Will Still Cash the Checks
Here's what you're going to watch happen over the next three months.
National Democrats will hold fundraisers.
They'll give speeches about how Texas is changing.
They'll point to polls showing Talarico within striking distance of Ken Paxton.
Cable news will run segments about whether Texas is finally flipping.
And then both party committees – who, per Crockett, already have internal polling showing this race isn't moving – will continue spending their real money in North Carolina and Georgia.

Democrats need to flip four Senate seats to win the majority.
The seats they're actually fighting for are the ones the NRSC is defending with real dollars.
Texas isn't on that list.
Crockett knows it.
The party committees know it.
The only people who don't know it are the donors writing checks based on a story that has been wrong eight times in a row.
Republicans have held this seat through every political wave Democrats could throw at them – 2018, 2020, 2022.
Texas held every time.
Ken Paxton has Trump's endorsement, a base that turns out, and an opponent whose own primary rival just went on NBC and said she doesn't know if he can win.
That's not a close race.
That's a formality.
