Texas Democrats just told Jasmine Crockett she wasn't powerful enough to win a primary against a guy nobody had heard of.
Now she's gone on daytime television to lecture America about how powerful she actually is.
And the sentence she chose to prove it might be the most self-destructive thing a lame-duck congresswoman has said all year.
A Meltdown on Sherri Shepherd's Couch
Crockett sat down with Sherri Shepherd this week for what was supposed to be a softball exit interview.
Shepherd lobbed her an easy question about the criticism she takes online.
A normal politician would have answered with grace.
Crockett went the other way.
"I'm a black woman in America," she said. "Some people are just like, oh, but you're a congresswoman. I'm a black woman first."
Read that again.
A sitting member of the United States Congress just told the country that her race comes before her duty to the people who pay her salary.
Then she escalated.
"I am one of the 535 most powerful people in this country!"
She wasn't joking. She was scolding the audience.
Crockett went on to inform the cameras that ordinary Americans need to know their place beneath her.
"And for some reason, you think we on the same level, but you gonna disrespect me," she said. "Like, it's not gonna happen."
Out in the open. A Democrat congresswoman telling the country to bow down.
This Is Who She Has Always Been
The shocking part isn't that Crockett said it. The shocking part is that anyone is still surprised.
Last year she stood at the Human Rights Campaign dinner and mocked Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who has used a wheelchair for over four decades.
"Y'all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there," Crockett said.
A grown woman. On a stage. Mocking a paralyzed man for being in a wheelchair.
She also faced accusations of grabbing a journalist's phone and scratching his hand because he asked her about the Tesla Takedown protests.
And she has repeatedly called the President of the United States the grim reaper, claiming Trump is trying to deal death to Americans with every policy he signs.

Now we are supposed to respect her because she has a House office.
Texas Voters Already Disagreed With Her
Here's the part Crockett seems to have forgotten.
Texas Democrats already voted on whether she was powerful. They said no.
In the March 3 primary, state Rep. James Talarico beat her 53.1 percent to 45.6 percent. He had been a no-name backbench legislator from Austin three months before she launched her Senate bid.
She had every advantage. Name recognition. National media coverage. A fundraising base built on viral committee-room moments.
She still lost.
The Texas Tribune later reported her campaign had no manager, no real fundraising operation, and no ground game. Her own staff admitted they thought name recognition would carry her.
It didn't.
When her House term ends in January, she will have no Senate seat, no House seat, and no political office of any kind. She didn't even file for re-election.
The Backlash Was Instant and Brutal
The clip went viral within hours, and even people who normally let Democrats slide could not let this one go.
Atlantic contributing writer James Surowiecki pointed out the obvious. Crockett is in the minority party in a chamber she will not even be in next year.
Actor Robert Sterling called the claim one of the funniest things he had ever heard.
He noted that unless you sit on a major committee like Ways and Means, nobody outside your district even knows your name.
Backbenchers, Sterling argued, are politically expendable and easily replaced by donors and party leadership.

The Heritage Foundation's James Carafano went straight for the throat. "Her 15 minutes were up a long time ago."
Even the Center for New Liberalism, a group that leans left, joined the dogpile. Regional car dealership owners, they wrote, hold more real power than congressional backbenchers.
Conservative writer Jason Howerton landed the hardest punch.
He called Crockett the opposite of powerful and reminded her she is the employee of her constituents, not their superior. The reason she doesn't understand that, he wrote, is ignorance.
That last word matters. Because that's exactly what this is.
We Have Seen This Movie Before
Democrats have a long history of telling Americans exactly what they think of them and then losing the next election because of it.
Hillary Clinton stood at a New York fundraiser in September 2016 and called half of Donald Trump's voters a basket of deplorables.
She lost. Two months later. To the man she said was unelectable.
Hillary herself, in her own memoir, called the comment a political gift to Trump.
Mitt Romney did the same thing in 2012 when he wrote off 47 percent of Americans as moochers. He lost in an electoral landslide.
Barack Obama did it in 2008 when he said small-town Americans cling to their guns and religion.
The Tea Party rose out of those four words, and his party lost 63 House seats two years later.

The pattern is clear. When Democrats let the mask slip and say what they actually think of regular Americans, regular Americans listen. And remember.
Crockett just gave the GOP its 2026 campaign ad for free.
The Power Hallucination Is the Whole Democrat Problem
Congress has a 10 percent approval rating. That's the latest Gallup number from April. Disapproval climbed to 86 percent, tying the all-time record.
Eighty-six out of every hundred Americans look at Congress and see failure.
And Jasmine Crockett looked into a camera this week and called herself one of the most powerful people in the country.
That's not a gaffe. That's a worldview.
It's the same worldview that gave us the longest government shutdown in American history.
Open borders. ICE agents getting shot at. Grocery prices that broke working families.
Democrats in Washington genuinely believe they are royalty. They think the title makes them important. They think disagreement is disrespect. They think disrespect is racism.
The voters figured out something Crockett still hasn't.
Power in America does not come from a House office. It comes from results. From keeping promises. From doing the job.
Crockett spent four years posting clips, fighting Marjorie Taylor Greene on camera, mocking a paralyzed governor, and calling the President a grim reaper.
She passed nothing. She built nothing. She earned nothing.
And then she demanded respect from the Americans whose taxes funded her seat.
Texas already gave her the answer.
The rest of America is watching.
