What Three Million Pages Already Revealed
The DOJ's release of over three million Epstein documents changed everything about how Gates ended up in this investigation.
He wasn't just photographed with Epstein at charity events.
He corresponded with him regularly between 2011 and 2014 – years after Epstein pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor for prostitution in 2008.
That timeline matters.
Gates knew exactly who Epstein was when he kept meeting with him in New York, Germany, and France.
He knew when he flew on his private jet.
Melinda French Gates reportedly raised concerns about the relationship – and Gates continued it anyway.
When Gates finally addressed his staff at a Gates Foundation town hall in February 2026, he confirmed what the files had already alleged: two extramarital affairs during his marriage, one with a Russian bridge player and one with a Russian nuclear physicist.
"I did have affairs," he told employees.
What he couldn't explain away was what Epstein had documented about those affairs.
In July 2013, Epstein wrote emails to himself – draft frameworks that legal analysts have described as blackmail architecture – alleging that Gates contracted a sexually transmitted infection and sought to secretly slip antibiotics to Melinda without her knowledge.
"[You] implore me to please delete the emails regarding your STD, your request that I provide you antibiotics that you can surreptitiously give to Melinda," Epstein allegedly wrote.
Gates' team has called those specific allegations false.
But Gates confirmed the affairs – which means the underlying information Epstein claimed to hold had a foundation.

Why James Comer Wants Gates Under Oath
The House Oversight investigation isn't just about what Gates did.
It's about what Epstein knew, who else knew it, and how a convicted sex offender kept powerful men in his orbit for years after his conviction.
Chairman James Comer subpoenaed Gates after his name appeared repeatedly across the files.
"The Committee believes you have information that will assist in its investigation," Comer wrote in his March invitation letter.
Gates is not the first major figure to face the committee.
Bill Clinton testified after a months-long subpoena fight that nearly ended in contempt charges.

Les Wexner – the Victoria's Secret billionaire whom an FBI internal memo named as an Epstein co-conspirator – testified from his Ohio estate.
Former AG Pam Bondi, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and others have all sat for closed-door interviews.
The pattern from every interview has been identical: I knew nothing about the abuse.
The committee's work has already forced at least eight major American figures from positions of power – including former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, who lost his Harvard teaching post, and attorney Kathryn Ruemmler, who left her role as Goldman Sachs chief legal officer.
This Is What an Epstein Cover-Up Actually Looked Like
The question Congress is really asking isn't whether Gates attended trafficking events.
No victim has accused him of criminal conduct, and Gates has denied any such involvement.
The question is why the most powerful men in the world kept returning to a known sex offender year after year.
The files show Epstein understood exactly what he was collecting.
He wasn't building a social network.
He was building a vault.
Secrets about extramarital affairs, embarrassing correspondence, private meetings the public was never supposed to know about – Epstein documented all of it.

He reportedly threatened to expose Gates' alleged affair with Russian bridge player Mila Antonova in 2017, purportedly because Gates wouldn't join a JP Morgan-linked charitable fund Epstein had started.
That's not philanthropy.
That's a shakedown.
What Gates' testimony may finally answer is whether he understood that dynamic while it was happening – and stayed anyway.
His own words are already on record.
"Every minute I spent with him I regret," Gates told an Australian interviewer earlier this year.
That's not the language of a man who was deceived.
That's the language of a man who knew.
