Democrats spent $2 billion trying to make Kamala Harris president and got nothing.
Now James Carville is telling her to get off the stage.
He said it without apology – and made clear she should be grateful for the career she had.
Carville Drops the Velvet Glove
The veteran Democrat strategist has been on a tear about Harris for weeks.
Just days ago, Carville called the 2024 campaign the "most ineffective $2 billion ever spent" and demanded someone explain how Democrats burned through a historic war chest from Labor Day to Election Day without moving a single vote.
Now, on his Politics War Room podcast with co-host Al Hunt, he went further.
He ran through Harris's résumé – district attorney of San Francisco, Attorney General of California, U.S. Senator, Vice President, uncontested nominee of her party – and then delivered his verdict.
"She's had an incredible political career," Carville said. "Literally 99.98572% of any politician would give their right arm to have a career that successful. I do not feel sorry for her. You had the greatest gift that anybody can have. You had a chance."
Hunt was even blunter.
"I thought she was a bad candidate in 2024,” he said. “I thought she was a bad candidate in 2019. Terrible candidate when she at one point was thought to have a good chance to get the nomination until she campaigned."
"I hope she doesn't run," Hunt added.
That is Harris's own party, in 2026, begging her to stay home.
The Answer She Keeps Refusing to Give
Harris has spent months stringing Democrats along.
Asked in February whether she would run again, she told interviewer Sharon McMahon, "I might."
Asked in October by journalist Kara Swisher, she said, "Maybe. Maybe not."
She told the BBC she could "possibly" see herself running again, while insisting she is "not done."
She passed on the California governor's race – a move her allies described as clearing the path toward another White House run.
Democrats across the country are watching this slow-motion tease and cringing.

South Carolina state senator Ed Sutton put it plainly: "We tried it, it didn't work, next person up."
His colleague Brad Hutto agreed: "I think we're going to be reluctant to pick somebody who didn't win last time."
Carville told Fox News months ago she had "no chance" – because "no Democrat wants anything to do with anybody that had anything to do with 2024."
What the Party is Running From
There is a reason Democrats are treating 2024 like a crime scene.
Harris lost all seven battleground states to Donald Trump – Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada, and North Carolina – along with demographic groups the party had taken for granted for decades.
She had $2 billion, the full backing of the party establishment, and the support of every major media institution in America.
She came home empty.
The Democratic autopsy on the loss made it worse – a 192-page document that managed to avoid mentioning Biden's age, the Gaza fallout, or Harris's fundamental weaknesses as a candidate.
Carville compared it to an airplane crash investigation that refuses to examine the wreckage: "The last thing anybody says is, 'Well, we just need to look ahead. We don't need to look back.'"
He sees Harris running again as pouring gasoline on all of it.
"I don't see any possibility that the Democrats are going to go back to 2024," he said Sunday.
His suggested consolation prize made his real assessment plain – maybe a future Democrat president would put her on the Supreme Court, though Carville added the current Court "couldn't do no worse."

He is not offering her a future in Democrat politics. He is offering her an exit ramp.
The Party Has Already Moved On
Democrats are so desperate to escape the Harris era that Carville's preferred 2028 candidate is a billionaire Illinois governor most Americans have never heard of.
That is how bad it has gotten.
They are not looking for a great candidate – they are looking for anyone who was not within 500 miles of that $2 billion bonfire.
Harris running blows that whole escape plan up.
Every debate, every interview, every ad buy forces Democrats to relitigate the seven battleground losses, the campaign that burned through a historic war chest without moving a single voter, the candidate who quit the 2020 primary before a single vote was cast because voters rejected her the moment they saw her campaign.
Carville is not trying to be cruel.
He is trying to save his party from itself – from a candidate who has now failed twice and is apparently gearing up for a third attempt.
He told her the truth nobody in her orbit will say: the career was real, the chance was real, and she blew it.
Exit stage left or exit stage right – he does not care which.
He just needs her gone.
