And James Carville gave Democrats one scary warning about Donald Trump that left them sick.
Democrat enthusiasm surges under Kamala Harris
Democrats are head over heels for Vice President Kamala Harris after she became the party’s Presidential nominee.
The media has turned her into a new political rock star who’s like former President Barack Obama in a skirt.
Kamala has surged in the polls to a statistical dead heat with former President Donald Trump in most polls.
Trump has a slim lead in five of the seven swing states according to the RealClearPolitics polling average and Kamala has a 1.5% advantage nationally.
This is a coin flip race at this point, but Democrats are dreaming big of a landslide victory for Kamala on Election Day.
James Carville says hold your horses
Veteran Democrat strategist James Carville cautioned Democrats to stop measuring the drapes at the White House during an appearance on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper.
“Democrats are feeling better,” Carville said. “It’s undeniable . . . I see the polls and I remind people of a couple of things, Jake. First of all, most quants, and they’re better at this than I am, say that the Vice President would have to win almost by three points in the popular vote to win the Electoral College.”
Carville pointed out that Trump consistently outperformed his polling in the 2016 and 2020 Elections.
“And I also would point out that when President Trump runs, he overperforms his polling averages,” Carville explained. “He did it in 2016. The national polls were actually pretty spot-on, but they didn’t pull weight in the states.”
The state polls in the 2020 Election were titled heavily toward President Joe Biden and made it appear that he was going to win a decisive victory.
But he only won by about 40,000 votes spread across Arizona, Wisconsin, and Georgia.
“People need to have some reality infused in their optimism,” Carville stated. “I’m glad that people are feeling better. I’m glad that people are excited. But anybody that looks at this with any sense of history, any sense of objectivity, sees that there’s plenty possible pitfalls that we’re faced with. And we need to acknowledge that and stop being giddy all the time.”
CNN contributor Van Jones lamented that everything has gone right for Kamala after she entered the race, and she’s still only tied with Trump.
“We don’t wanna be tied. I don’t like being tied with Donald Trump because we’ve had now 20-plus days of positive press,” Jones whined. “He’s been falling down the stairs, slipping on banana peels and poking himself in the eyeball. We should not be tied. We want to pull ahead.”
There’s still a long way till Election Day and the race is still a toss-up.
How the candidates do in the closing stretch will determine which party wins the White House.
