Jack Smith’s job was to bring down Donald Trump before the Presidential Election.
Smith’s now facing a fork in the road.
And Jack Smith blindsided Donald Trump with this bombshell legal announcement.
Jack Smith plans to retire before he’s fired
Donald Trump winning the 2024 election meant Jack Smith’s witch hunts against Donald Trump over the classified documents and January 6 hoaxes were effectively dead.
The Justice Department prevents criminal trials against a sitting President, and the American people rendered their verdict on Smith and other Democrat Party prosecutors’ lawfare against Trump with their resounding electoral mandate.
Now Smith is reportedly wrapping up his political persecutions and plans to step down before Donald Trump assumes the Presidency.
“Jack Smith, the special counsel who pursued two federal prosecutions of Donald J. Trump, plans to finish his work and resign along with other members of his team before Mr. Trump takes office in January, people familiar with his plans said,” The New York Times exclusively reported.
“Mr. Smith’s office is still drawing up its plan for how to end the cases, and it is possible that unforeseen circumstances — such as judicial rulings or decisions by other government officials — could alter his intended timeline. But Mr. Smith is trying to finish his work and leave before Mr. Trump returns to power, the people familiar with his plans said,” The Times report continued.
This is a case of jumping before you get pushed.
Donald Trump told radio host Hugh Hewitt that one of his first moves in office would be canning Smith.
“It’s so easy — I would fire him within two seconds,” Trump declared.
But Jack Smith won’t be allowed to just slink away without being held accountable for his attacks on democracy.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) sent Smith a letter following the election demanding he preserve all records as Congress prepares to investigate his role in weaponizing the justice system against Donald Trump.
“The Committee on the Judiciary is continuing its oversight of the Department of Justice and the Office of Special Counsel. According to recent public reports, prosecutors in your office have been ‘gaming out legal options’ in the event that President Donald Trump won the election,” the letter read.
The committee is investigating communication between the FBI and Smith’s office about the August 2022 raid on Mar-a-Lago, communication between Smith’s office and the Biden-Kamala Harris Department of Justice, and documents regarding the hiring of Smith’s staff.
“With President Trump’s decisive victory this week, we are concerned that the Office of Special Counsel may attempt to purge relevant records, communications, and documents responsive to our numerous requests for information. The Office of Special Counsel is not immune from transparency or above accountability for its action,” the letter continued.
Jordan made it clear to Smith that he wasn’t messing around and this investigation into his witch hunts against Trump would proceed at a rapid pace.
“We reiterate our requests, which are itemized in the attached appendix and incorporated herein, and ask that you produce the entirety of the requested material as soon as possible but no later than November 22, 2024,” the letter added.
