Home prices began to surge during the pandemic across most of the country.
Then the Federal Reserve began hiking interest rates to their highest levels in decades to tamper down the inflation that President Joe Biden released with his socialist spending spree.
Now, mortgage rates have hit two-decade highs under the Biden-Harris administration.
A July report from Zillow found that the price of a starter home is now at least $1 million in 200 cities across the country.
The surging housing costs are leaving many younger Americans unable to buy homes.
And that’s pushing back major life goals like marriage and starting a family.
U.S. Senator J.D. Vance (R-OH) said that younger Americans “are becoming paupers in their own country” because of housing prices and inflation during the Biden-Harris administration during a speech in Byron Center, Michigan.
The 40-year-old Ohio lawmaker lamented that the younger generations are facing obstacles that their parents and grandparents didn’t face in buying a home.
“Americans, especially young people, are becoming paupers in their own country,” Vance said. “If we don’t do better, our young generation, they’re not going to own anything, they’re not going to have anything, they’re going to be renters in the country that their parents and grandparents built. Inflation is a disaster.”
The Trump-Vance ticket fighting hard to lower costs
The median home price in the country is about $442,000, according to Redfin, compared to $358,700 at the end of the Trump administration.
Rent prices have jumped nearly 20% since 2019, which has made it even harder for many Americans to save up to buy a home.
There’s an increasing sense of hopelessness for many Americans under the Biden-Harris administration as they fall further behind.
Former President Donald Trump has vowed to unleash American energy production to help bring down prices.
“When the economy gets better, it’s hard to get better when you have high energy prices,” Trump told a crowd of supporters in Iowa. “We’ll get the prices way down and then the interest rates down and then the home builders will start building again, because nobody can get money from the bank because the interest rate’s high.”
Vice President Kamala Harris finally debuted a policy to deal with high housing costs after more than a month in the race.
She wants to give $25,000 in down payment aid to first-time homeowners which will just drive the cost of homes up.
Kamala has helped preside over an economy where the cost of everything has gone up over 20% since she entered office.
