Trump promised to secure America's borders and restore law and order to our immigration system.
Democrats spent four years turning the border into an open door for criminals and terrorists.
And five immigration changes just put every foreign traveler on notice.
Trump slams the door on visa abuse
The Biden administration treated our immigration system like a welcome mat for anyone who wanted to waltz into America.
Now Trump's taking a blowtorch to the whole rotten apparatus.
And foreign nationals who thought they could game the system are about to get a very rude awakening.
Trump just rolled out the most aggressive immigration reforms since he left office, and the changes are already sending shockwaves through the tech industry, travel sector, and immigrant communities nationwide.
These aren't minor tweaks to obscure regulations buried in the Federal Register.
We're talking about fundamental restructuring of who gets to come to America and what it costs them to get here.
The H-1B visa program became a punching bag for Silicon Valley companies looking to import cheap foreign labor instead of hiring Americans.
Trump campaigned on fixing that disaster, and he delivered.
Companies now pay a one-time $100,000 fee for each new H-1B petition they file.¹
That's not a typo.
The fee jumped from around $2,000 to $100,000 overnight when Trump signed the executive order in September.
Tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta suddenly found themselves staring down massive cost increases if they wanted to keep bringing in foreign workers.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick made it crystal clear this wasn't some administrative adjustment.
"If you're going to train people, you're going to train Americans," Lutnick said. "If you have a very sophisticated engineer and you want to bring them in, then you can pay $100,000 a year for your H-1B visa."²
The move triggered panic in India and China, which account for more than 80% of H-1B visa holders.
Indian families scrambled to get back to America before the fee kicked in, worried they'd be locked out forever.
Some canceled vacation plans entirely, too scared to risk leaving the country.
And here's the kicker: Trump's team says this astronomical fee will probably cut H-1B visa applications in half because most companies simply can't justify the expense anymore.
Facial recognition goes nationwide for every foreign arrival
Biden let millions of illegal aliens pour across the southern border while doing virtually nothing to track who was actually leaving the country.
Trump's Department of Homeland Security just ended that insanity.
Starting December 26, 2025, every single non-citizen entering or leaving America gets photographed through facial recognition technology.³
That includes green card holders, visa holders, tourists, business travelers – everyone who isn't a U.S. citizen.
The new rule eliminates exemptions that previously existed for diplomats, Canadian visitors, young children, and elderly travelers.
Customs and Border Protection's new facial recognition system matches your face against federal databases within seconds.
The system catches criminals, stops visa fraud, identifies people who overstayed their visas, and prevents illegal re-entry by previously deported individuals.
DHS Acting Executive Assistant Commissioner Diane Sabatino called it "a major milestone" toward strengthening America's security.
Critics whine about privacy concerns, but tough luck.
If you want to enter our country, you follow our rules.
The facial recognition system operates at airports, seaports, land borders, and private aircraft departure points.
CBP says the technology matches travelers at a rate greater than 98 percent accuracy.⁴
Photos of non-citizens can be kept for up to 75 years in federal databases.
Privacy advocates are already preparing lawsuits, but Trump's not backing down.
This is about national security, not making foreign travelers feel comfortable.
Social media history now under federal scrutiny
The Biden administration treated social media profiles like off-limits territory that couldn't be touched.
Trump just torched that ridiculous policy.
Homeland Security now requires foreign tourists to hand over their social media accounts from the past five years before entering America.⁵
The new requirement applies to anyone applying through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, which covers visitors from dozens of countries that don't need traditional visas.
DHS says social media screening helps identify potential terrorists, criminals, and national security threats before they set foot on American soil.
This follows Trump's January 2025 executive order demanding better protection against foreign terrorists and public safety threats.
Customs and Border Protection added social media as a mandatory data element for all ESTA applications.
If you want to visit America, the government now reviews your Facebook posts, Twitter history, Instagram feed, and any other social platforms you've used over the past five years.
Don't like it? Stay home.
Trump Gold Card creates billion-dollar citizenship pathway
Trump launched the "Trump Gold Card" in December, offering expedited permanent residency for foreign nationals willing to pay $1 million to the federal government.⁶
Corporations can sponsor employees for $2 million per person.
The program went live on trumpcard.gov with promises of "U.S. residency in record time."
Applicants pay a $15,000 processing fee, undergo background checks, then contribute $1 million to demonstrate they'll provide substantial benefit to America.
Successful applicants receive lawful permanent resident status as EB-1 or EB-2 visa holders – categories normally reserved for people with extraordinary abilities or advanced degrees.
After five years, Gold Card holders can apply for full citizenship.
Trump says the program could generate billions in revenue for the Treasury.
Commerce Secretary Lutnick predicted it might raise $1 trillion if millions of cards get sold.
The administration offered 80,000 Gold Cards initially, but only 1,300 applications came in by September, generating $1.3 billion.⁷
Immigration attorneys question whether Trump has legal authority to essentially sell citizenship, but the program's moving forward anyway.
Trump also announced plans for a $5 million "Platinum Card" that would let holders spend 270 days per year in America without paying U.S. taxes on foreign income.
That version requires Congressional approval, so it's on hold for now.
Revamped citizenship test doubles the questions
The U.S. citizenship test got a major overhaul that makes it significantly harder to pass.
New applicants must now answer 12 out of 20 questions correctly, up from the previous requirement of 6 out of 10.⁸
The test draws from a pool of 128 civics questions instead of the old 100-question format.
Applicants must name all three branches of government instead of just one.
Geographic questions got eliminated entirely.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services says the tougher standards ensure only aliens who fully embrace American values and principles can naturalize.
"American citizenship is the most sacred citizenship in the world and should only be reserved for aliens who will fully embrace our values and principles as a nation," USCIS spokesman Matthew Tragesser said.⁹
The new test requires applicants to read, write, and speak English fluently while demonstrating comprehensive understanding of U.S. government and civics.
Tragesser called these changes "the first of many" reforms coming to the citizenship process.
Immigration system finally serves American interests
Trump's not trying to win popularity contests with foreign governments or Silicon Valley executives.
He's putting American workers first, strengthening national security, and ensuring only people who genuinely want to become Americans can gain citizenship.
The $100,000 H-1B fee forces companies to invest in American workers instead of importing cheap foreign labor.
Universal facial recognition closes gaps that let visa overstayers disappear into America's interior.
Social media screening identifies threats before they enter the country.
The Gold Card generates billions while attracting only the most committed, financially capable immigrants.
And the tougher citizenship test weeds out people who won't fully assimilate into American culture.
Democrats and their media allies will scream about discrimination, xenophobia, and cruelty.
But Trump's immigration reforms do exactly what voters demanded when they elected him: secure the border, enforce the law, and restore sanity to a system that Biden destroyed.
These changes take effect immediately, and they're just the beginning of Trump's immigration agenda for his second term.
